| "Daisy" dogs? WTF? So today I saw a client who said she has a "Daisy" dog. She could probably tell by the completely clueless look on my face that I had no idea what she was talking about. Was that the dog's name or something?
No, she proceeded to tell me that its from a breeder who mixes like 4 other breeds together and calls it a "Daisy" dog. But when asked, the breeder won't say which breeds.
So by this point in the conversation I am completely blown away by the stupidity of someone who would buy a mixed breed mutt by someone who actually breeds them on purpose. I mean seriously, go down to your local shelter and save a life for god's sake.
Of course I wasn't really in a position to launch into my usual BYB/greeder tirade considering I was on the clock. Oh it cost me everything I had to hold my tongue...
Anyway, I got home and googled it. Here's the website: Daisy Dogs - Exclusively By Jennifer Peterson
Has anyone ever heard of this?

| all I can say is WTF?
I'm speechless. Like you said, go to the shelter and rescue a mutt. I get so angry with people and their "designer" dogs. No, it's not a "designer" its a Heinz 57 that you paid some idiot for when you could have gotten one for free who is looking for a loving home from the local shelter!
QUOTE FROM THE WEBSITE
"I like having something to offer to society that no one else has. It’s one of the things that I do well and don’t want to give up." ----- WHAT?! I'm blown away, the only thing you are offer are more mutts that cost money and take homes away from the needy dogs in shelters!

| I teach pet classes at one of the big box stores in Michigan... I get several of these a year. They're just another little expensive fuzzy mutt. I am exceedingly against pediatric speuters, and the Daisy Dog woman is so afraid that someone else will be able to capitolize on her mutt and make a buck that she sells baby speutered puppies... that actually irks me as much as everything else.
You remember Charlee Bears? They never took off and may be all gone, but they also were from Michigan. The treats by the same name were made for them.
On the other end of the scale, there was someone around here breeding "Great Mastiffs"... the biggest damn dog I have ever seen! Some of them were actually quite attractive and most of them had nice temperaments, but they were Just. So. BIG!!! |

| | Alpha | Wow and she is making a ton of money from this. Can't you just do DNA testing and get her "recipe"?
Speaking of Heinz 57 dogs and DNA testing. There is the cutest dog at the dog park I go to that these people got at a shelter, it is a St. Bernard and Corgi. How I have no clue, but it looks just like a miniature short hair St. Bernard on short Corgi legs. The hips and thighs are massive muscle, you have to see it to believe it. No, I've never heard of a Charlee Bear. What are the people in this state smoking? lol
I find it hilarious that the daisy dog lady thinks someone is going to steal her idea. Does she realize that my neighbor's dog could go hop on the dog across the street, and that would basically qualify as stealing her idea?

| About Steve Brown - Author of Books on Canine Nutrition. I actaully think very highly of Steve Brown and like him a lot... he knows a big serious lot about nutrition and the dog food industry. I have had several exchanges with him over the years on lists and also privately, but I have never mentioned his foray into the designer dog industry. The Charlee Bear website is down, and the last mention I can find is from 2006.
Your neighbor may be able to make little fuzzy muttley puppies and sell them for big bucks, but if she called them Daisy Dogs she would get sued into oblivion LOL! |

i can't stop laughing at this...
I just picture her handing out subpoenas to people to start sueing their dogs for stealing her idea/recipe. copyright infringement

| Looks like a lot of shih tzu, poodle, maltese and Lhasa in those mutts. What a gimmick, I could go to the shelter and get the same thing without lining someone's pockets. |

| If only I had been born without a conscience. I could be so rich.
I would breed HollyHock Dogs instead, though, because I like those better.

Either way all those breeds and mixes of those breeds are probably what 90% of little dogs that come into shelters are.
I'm tempted to call (I wish she had an email listed) and ask what her mix has that the individual breeds don't have. |

| I hope this person doesn't or hasn't sold to someone who knows someone with half a brain to do a DNA test ;D
Ignorance...
I don't see any consistent traits in any of those dogs...
AND there is NO dog who DOESN'T shed in some manner...

| As much as I would like to say it's that idiot's fault for doing this, I have to spread the blame and ignorance to the morons who buy these mixed breeds.
They could get the same thing at a shelter for a hell of a lot less money. They deserve to be taken. |

I had to stop reading the terrible FAQ after the first 2 fake questions/answers.
Stating that they are decedents of dogs in her family since 1950 only states that they ignorantly bred dogs because they were irresponsible and pass their ignorance onto their children... whom they probably made out of different ingredients and continue to be ignorant and breed these inbred dogs together making fuzzy drones.
And quite honestly they are not cute.
Don't let this greeder come near our beloved Dobie!

I have seen some come back accurately, and some come back that made you wonder if someone was drunk when they sent the results. Long story short, no they are not 100% accurate, and I would never rely on them to accurately identify the breeds used to create a mixed breed.
