Of All the Nerve!! Males grrrr....

Sebastian my beautiful darling smart huggable puppy just lifted his leg on my xmas tree!!!! Damn those hormones. I'm usually gentle with the boy but not this time. This is the second time he marked in the house, first time I must not have gotten my point across, this time I think/hope/pray I did or I'm breaking out a 2x4 (I kid, I kid). I like male dogs, I like their size, I like their snuggle factor and I generally like the looks better. I also like females and wanted Eli to be a female and I wanted Sebastian to be a female. I got males, just like I had male children, wanted girls had boys.

What I hate is this coming of age male thing. He is intact and we are working with that but if he wasn't a potential show dog, snip snip!! He is also rubbing on the dog bed occasionally, I stop that too, no fun here. Geeze...just venting...

Oh gosh, that darn Sebastian!! I remember when Harvey (RIP) our first Dobe marked like that a few times. Thank goodness not too badly and he was snipped around 16 months or so and we never had a long term issue with it.

We almost ended up with the male from gidget's litter and the whole male coming of age thing was something I would not have been looking forward to! So I totally feel for you! Hopefully Seb got the message loud and clear and this won't be a repeat incident for you!

Go straight back to housebreaking 101 crate and tether to you until you are absolutely sure he has the message no lifting of legs in the house. Buddy will be 7 years old in April has never lifted his leg anywhere. He has only been around Patches but I'm not sad about it.

LOL Jed lifted his leg last year for the first time on the FAKE Christmas tree! Presents WERE under the tree at that time as well. We blame it on senility.
Sully isn't lifting his leg yet. Actually, I am pretty sure when he first got here he tried to mark on of my blankets and got a stern talking to!
I WISH he would lift his leg! Stupid boy puppy pees all over his front leg!! not little splashes, no, full stream of pee going onto his leg!

Haha, oh I feel your pain. My old chocolate lab was intact (we co-owned him, and his breeder used him at stud once he was finished showing), and the first Christmas we had him (he was almost a year old at this point) we brilliantly decided it should also be the first year we get a real tree. I didn't think anything of it, Quin had never lifted his leg inside...well no sooner was the tree up then Quin happily came over and peed all over it, and then wiggled around like crazy as if to thank us (he never did like going out to pee in the winter). We survived that Christmas, and then bought a really nice fake tree, he never peed on that one.

The year Quin passed my Grandma sent me a chocolate lab ornament for the tree (she actually found it and bought it while I was at my clinic with him saying goodbye. She didn't know he was going to the bridge as he crashed hard and I didn't have a chance to call anyone before hand. For that reason that ornament is very special to me). It is the first ornament to go on my tree every year since, and every year I cry and laugh at the same time as I put it on. I wish the old boy a Merry Christmas, and then laugh about the year he peed all over our tree. Oh look, I rambled yet again.

My French Bulldog has just started marking at 4 years old. He never did it before.
He's was fixed at 18 months... He usually targets the other dog's beds.
