| Okay, I'm not the only one here who thinks that Timber looks like Ilka. My son came over while I was watching the video, so I asked him who the black and white dog looked like, and he said "Ilka".

| Except for the merle coloring, he really looks like an old-fashioned (late 1800's/early 1900's) Bull Terrier. They didn't really start breeding for that extreme "egghead" look until about the 1930's, I believe

| Just some new ones of Timber.
He's been doing well, we went to the Dog Park and he loved it... Really need to work on his coming to me when I have a leash in my hand... ugh....
Went to the local dog bakery and he wasn't terrified of everyone there, the rescue he is part of was there with a couple dogs (and wrapping gifts) and said even in the few weeks I've had him (almost 2) he's almost done a 180...
Onto pictures
Crazy eyes
And at the park
You go ahead and dig, I'll stand watch

| I think he is finally starting to relax don't you think?
And the boys have been getting along just smashingly
(please excuse the mess this is in my "craft room", I have fabric all over the place)
And I have also found Timbers new favorite toy (minus any toy that Jones has)

| Sigh.... So I know it's only been a few weeks, and maybe I am expecting too much but I feel like I've been doing my best to house break him....
The days I am home he goes out every couple of hours, after he eats, after him a Jones wrestle around, after he wakes up from a nap, if he goes to the backdoor I let him out... needless to say he goes out a lot, I am treating him just like a puppy! But still constantly is having accidents in the house. They are little, small amounts of pee, small amounts of poop (very loose)... Am I expecting too much?
And tonight, I am going over to a friends house so I put him in the crate like I normally do, and he is freaking out. Of course I am not even acknowledging it, and I am just going to let him freak out, but why is he going crazy? For 3 weeks he was perfectly happy about the crate, heck he would go in on his own just to sleep or relax, now this...
I just feel so frustrated. I've never had this issue with any of my other fosters and maybe that is why it's killing me. He's my first "terrier" though also, and I've always said I am not the person to own a terrier because I feel they are pretty Stubborn and "bull" headed... Well that is my personality too, and the two just don't mix.
Do any of my terrier owners have any advice for me? Anything at all, even if it's just words of encouragement...

No possibility of weird stuff going on physically for the potty problems? If so, I guess I'd treat him as if he's an eight week old puppy - literally. Out every 30 minutes (or more), tethered or crated all the time.
For the crate thing, I think it's pretty common for a dog (especially those that may not love their crates wholeheartedly) to have trouble being crated in a new place. New environment, new smells and sounds, and especially if he's a bit anxious, that seems pretty normal. Not that you should let him out, but just treat it the same as the first time you put him in the crate at home.

| Sorry you guys are hitting a rough patch - it is so wonderful of you to foster and help him. Is he having accidents or marking? When you are finding urine, where is it? I only ask because you mention he's only leaving small amounts. But, the loose stool leads towards stomach or incontinence problems. Hmmm. Male terriers can be very big about marking and letting the world know they are there, so just an idea. The difficulty in housebreaking isn't something I've experienced with my terriers - they are usually very easy to pick it up. I would continue doing what you are doing - tether him to you if needed.
Did he maybe get hurt in the crate somehow when you weren't home, so now he's afraid? Or, does he seem to just be throwing a tantrum? My Dobe would pull that crap when he was WELL into his crate training. He'd be great, calm, and quiet in his crate, and then he would decide one day to be an @ss when I put him in there. I think he was just testing and raising his general displeasure with being crated, especially when people were somewhere else in the house. I did as you did and ignored it (while feeding him meals in there, etc) and he figured out that being a brat got him nowhere. I've never had SO much trouble crate training a dog before Chase. He'd randomly freak, just like Timber! I worked on crating him when I was home and when leaving to teach him that crating happens sometimes, deal with it. And he usually gets a frozen something when crated - that made him much more willing to go in. I'm sure you're already doing a lot of what I'm saying....just kind of throwing some ideas around
Sorry to not be of more help! Good luck and keep your chin up. It'll get better!

Maybe it's time for a check-up to see if something is going on... I've actually been attributing the loose stool to not finding the correct food for him (Feeding him the same thing Jones is on Earthborn, Meadow... Before we tried Fromms, which he also had loose stool with) Quote:

Did he maybe get hurt in the crate somehow when you weren't home, so now he's afraid? Or, does he seem to just be throwing a tantrum? *snip* | He is very prominent about lifting his leg to mark, and has marked my walls a couple of times, these are spots in the middle of hallways, he's done it twice now to the entry way of the "dog room" and I always steam clean and then spray the area with an enzyme cleaner. He's very good at night, I have a dog bed in my room, and he will sleep on that all night, and not have any accidents or anything, and that is a good 9hrs or so of me sleeping... I guess that is why it is killing me I don't understand how he can go 9 hrs at night and not ask me to go out. But during the day he will have these accidents (or I guess marking)....
The crate thing is definitely more of tantrum thing, least I am pretty sure, I don't think he's ever been hurt (he did break out of the crate once, that was prior to me zip tying it together....) Guess I need to be more proactive with his crate.... Crating him while I am home. He gets a chew bone and all of his meals are typically in the crate.

| Regarding the crate issue since it's just starting. Are there fireworks going off around you, is it possible that had him freaking out??? Just a thought, not sure if it is the reason. He could just be a stubborn terrier (I have 2 terriers, a pit bull and a boston, so I know ALL about the stubborness lol). They definitely test your sanity at times. I was just telling my dad tonight that as much as I love pitties, my dobies may have changed my #1 breed of choice because they are so much easier to train IMO.
As for peeing/possibly marking, I went through that with my boston. After bringing him to the vet to make sure it wasn't a medical problem, we learned that he was just being a jerk and marking in crazy places of the house. I would definitely recommend going to the vet 1st. If all checks out fine, keep on going with treating him like a puppy. I had to do that with my at the time 3 y/o completely potty trained at one time dog, so I know how frustrating it can be. Again, you have to change your mind set when working with these stubborn terrors lol. I have found them to be smart, they just like to test you a bit...so once they get it, they are usually just fine!
