| Coonhound contacts? Anyone have a good working relationship with any hound rescuers?
I'm trying to help out a four-ish year old Treeing Walker who's living off the land right now.
Have been unable to locate owner. Can't (so far) find a rescue placement for him.
Euth rate of hounds at local shelter is in the upper 90th percentile.
He's freaked to the max, inside a house, clearly never been in one before.
He's gorgeous, looks like a well-bred hound, actually, and he's not in terrible shape, although thin, and with the usual sore feet/foot injuries lost hounds show up with.
Sweet as pie, friendly with humans and other dogs, although very, very soft and very timid. Have to go slow with him.
Anywhoo, anyone with any suggestions/ideas, would appreciate it.
He's in SW WV, but can transport a few hours one way, any direction.

| I'm not really near your area, but I could ask around the rescue people I know. I assume you've already tried the local rescue groups? Quick google search pulled up a few options to start.. Virginia Treeing Walker Coonhound Rescue ADOPTIONS *RescueMe.Org https://www.facebook.com/pages/Coonh...86296814742904 Coonhound Rescue, Education and Welfare for Walkers Inc.
Another volunteer I know is a big hound person....mostly bassets and bloodhounds, etc. but she might have more ideas. Hopefully someone closer by will have contacts.

I'm not on FB, so anyone that can help with that, great.
That third link, SpecialK, they are not doing any more intakes.
That's what I'm getting from most of the rescues I've tried--holidays and all, no one wants to foster this time of year anyway, plus hound rescues, like Pit and Lab rescues, just stay so slammed all the time. Sigh.
I'll try to get pics of him in the next day or so, although tomorrow is my long day, so it will prob. have to be Sunday.
He's a nice-looking hound.

| Pictures would be great...especially for Facebook. I've seen first hand the power of social media in rescue, but it helps so much to have a visual.

I can drag home a stray while walking back from the mailbox. Sigh.
Thank you, lemme know if you get any bites.
I've been searching for rescues, and looking at all the images listed, confirms my feeling he's a quality hound--not that they don't all deserve rescue, just hoping it gives him some slight edge--his attractiveness--as getting a hound a rescue placement seems as easy as permanent peace in the Middle East.

There is a whole rescue network on FB for coonhounds, but, if I remember correctly, you don't "do" FB.
Agreed, there is a steady flow of GORGEOUS coonhounds. I help admin the coonhound rescue network page on fb, and the amount of posts is insane. However, lots are networked and saved!

Houndsong Rescue HoundSong Rescue
I know they service Illinois & Indiana, but maybe they could help or network him with people they know or figure out transport or something. On that website I also see several other rescue resources listed, so maybe just a few more avenues that haven't been exhausted yet.

Okay, the rest of that sentence was "hound" but he just showed up.
Can't make this stuff up--if it was a movie, too corny.
But, here he is, will take a few pics, then transport to foster, continue looking for longterm placement or adopter.
Thank you so much everyone.

| Hello DT!
This lady here is calling me "Acorn," for now, she says 'cause I found her by the big old oak tree that fell down in the last big storm.
I'm really not sure what this "house" thing is, pretty confusing, all this stuff.
Ah, much better--grass and outside smells and birds and trees--I like outdoors.
Friendly hands are good too--the human taking my picture (whatever that is?) says this nice lady will be feeding me good food and making sure I am safe, for now.
What's that? There are other dogs over there, where I can see! I like other dogs. All's good for now.

| He is a cutie! Glad to see you were able to track him down and get him into temp foster.
I'm not sure why that contact form isn't working, it seems to be for me, but I haven't tried to actually submit anything. I was looking around for a phone number or email but haven't found anything yet.
Did someone post him to the Coonhound Rescue Network facebook page yet? If not I could do it if you would like...let me know.

And anyone else who wants his pic to post and network, feel free.
His foster person thinks he's younger than I originally thought--he does still squat to pee, but he is lanky enough to be an adolescent-ish male. I dunno, he's skinny, but not too bad--I'm not experienced in how coonhounds "grow out."
His teeth just have a decent amount of plaque on them, but that could possibly be from eating crap diet his whole life?
I dunno--safest guess is he's at least near two-ish, maybe as old as three or four.

| Okay, I think the file size on the first attempts to contact HoundSong was too large.
I switched to another pic, and this time it went.
Crossables crossed, they will have some resources to suggest for him.

| Oh my goodness. He is really cute! I adore the name you picked, it suits him so well. Acorn, awesome, awesome. I think it is time to put up the no vacancy sign and turn off the vacancy. I wish I could help you. Like I told you before we just don't get any hounds around here, most of the strays are pitts, gsd, pitt and gsd mixes and labs...hopin' hard you find a rescue to take him. I'm editing to add we do get few apparently as there is a rescue see link in post below.

I found this, it's by me in So. California but maybe they could take him. We can do a state by state transport. I would be willing to donate either food or a few dollars to that rescue if they will help you. |

Run by Jean Stone, she is usually full and looking for foster homes. Nice woman, has had some issues with the local(to her) SPCA. She is the one who started the Coonhound Rescue Network on facebook.
