His emergency foster loves him, but is overwhelmed with other fosters, and I'm overwhelmed and not doing well health-wise, but hey, not like there was a long line of folks here waiting to help out Acorn the Awesome. Quote:

Of course, there are too many fabulous folks here to count, really. (Minus, naturally, our recent spate of BYB's Union of Amuricah.)
I wonder if we got him neutered here, if it would help get him a rescue placement?
I don't even know if he's HW negative, so everyone send vibes on that.
I bet if any hound rescue knew the power and generosity of DT...they'd be able to take him on. Eh, that might not even be true--I'm starting to understand just how very slammed they are, just like pibble rescues. Quote:

We could do pilots-n-paws maybe.

Would be worth contacting her, they pull from many US Shelters. LOTS of coonies in WV that have been posted to Coonhound rescue network. Transport can always be arranged.

| OMgosh...I put coonhound rescue california...I swear I read Ontario, Ca...as in California. I wondered why there were so many coonhounds. Well my offer stands, lets get this boy someplace. Right of course he is not neutered...

| I've sent the info to Jean's personal email. I will also email Georgette even though her rescue is bloodhounds. I will try with a couple of other all breed rescues as well. Hopefully someone gets back to me.

| | Alpha | Handsome and very lucky fellow!
Sure wish I could help, but sadly our local rescues have trouble placing hounds in good homes too (northern WV).. Most likely he was tossed because of his soft nature, making him useless as a hunting dog My best friend rescued one in Hurricane years ago who was left tied to a tree to die.
The folks around me who WOULD want him, are NOT the type of people who should own any animals... and they would only want him if he did hunt..
I would get him neutered and HW tested, that should help in finding placement.
I always wind up finding tossed critters too- and admit that the last one I had to send to the dog pound. I just didn't have the $$ or time to try to place a pitbull mix on my own, as sweet as she was. It still bothers me, knowing her chances of finding a home were slim. BUT, it beat the alternative of starving, being shot by an idiot neighbor, or killed by coyotes...
I truly hope you find a rescue to help Acorn!!! |

| To lighten the mood a bit. Although I think all dogs should be loved pets, I have no issue with hunting dogs being kept outdoors as long as they are provided with proper care, shelter and food.
I saw this ad one night and it honestly made me laugh. "kudos" to the guy for at least not just abandoning the dog and trying to find a home and having him neutered etc.
***BEFORE YOU CLICK ON THE LINK THERE ARE PICTURES OF THE SUCESSFUL HUNT*** Male Beagle - Muskoka Dogs & Puppies For Sale - Kijiji Muskoka Canada.
Male beagle free to good home. He does not hunt but loves to go for the walk. He has his shots , but he will need his boosters next month. He is neutered and very friendly with people, children and other pets. In the picture he is the brown headed beagle in the middle
The bolded part made me laugh so much for some reason.

| Anything going on for the boy yet? Someone notified Lucy Moye who arranges transports to Canada for hounds I guess, maybe thea2003 knows of her. I suspect she is taking them to the mentioned rescue, Gentle Jakes.
Let me know how it goes, I don't want to be pestering the same people if they are already in the loop! |

I hope someone can accept him, esp. if we can get him neutered and HW tested, which I think we can get all of that done for around 60-80 bucks, will have to get a weight on him.
Update: Due to all the rain, he's been brought inside and is taking it sooooo hard. I mean, he's lying atop a pile of comfy comforters, sort of looking ashamed, like nobody from the old neighborhood would recognize him now. He's wolfing food now, when before he was too nervous to eat. He doesn't bother to stand up to drink his water, just lies on his blankies like the prince he now clearly thinks he is, and languidly slurps.
He's awesome with kids, has met several now, likes men, likes women, ignores birds, and cats, continues to be friendly with all dogs.
There is a big personality in there, waiting to come out, though, and tiny bits of it are peeking out...witness I shared some of my KFC bites last night with Acorn, not that I planned to--he just gently and slyly took a chicken bite (formerly on its way to MY mouth) right out of my hand, slurped it, grinned, and wagged his tail, hard.
And, ta da! He has conquered the mysterious art of walking on a tile floor, without it falling right out from under his clenched claws

Hounds make such awesome pets- hers was one of the most laid back, lazy, good natured pups you could ever hope to meet. NOTHING fazed him. She lost him last year at what the vet guessed to be about 17 yrs of age. I told her he lived that long because he knew how to conserve energy by using as little as possible "tortoise style".
Her boy never did learn that smooth floors weren't deadly though- she had to have a complicated series of rugs to cross the abyss of vinyl... |

| Dobermama, perfect pronunciation, except those of us who were high-falutin' added an extra syllable, so it was Her-uh-ken
Here is a rescue Dobergirl, fascinated by Acorn's ears flapping wildly, while he shakes off the rain that he almost melted in:
Lord of the Living room, lounging in a pile of comfy stuff, perfectly content in a crate:

Just checking in, to see if Thea or anyone has heard back from anybody.
I've still gotten nothing but "no's" and no responses.
I forgot to answer about the rescue Dobergirl in the picture--that is a foster girl that Acorn's temporary foster already had.

| Okay, have had an update from Acorn's foster mommy, who now insists his middle name is "Wimbly," so his initials can be Aw.
So, Mr. Acorn Wimbly was outside for five minutes this morning, before he "knocked" at the backdoor and started hollering to be let inside!
She says his ruination and spoilage is now complete, that didn't take long.
Outdoor hound doggie into pampered prince

| I heard back from an all breed rescue- they don't have much luck placing hounds. She is going to send me some Toronto/Kingston based rescue links- she said they have luck placing hounds. I STILL haven't heard from Jean on FB or email... seems to be MIA.
