Anyone ever had to get a vet reference for a rescue but not have one? This would be my boyfriend and I's first dog on our own. I'am by no means a stranger to dogs, they have always been a part of our lives growing up (but my mom always handled the vet care)

anyone have advice?

I'd just be honest, and say that it will be your first dog on your own, but you can give the vet your mom took the family dogs to. Maybe you could ask the rescue if they could recommend a vet.

Do you know which vet you will be using? I just had to give a vet reference myself and while I don't have (my own) dogs I know exactly what vet I'll be going to. We've used her for years and she's the only one in the city that I trust wholeheartedly. Now I do use her for my cat as well, so it's not like I don't know her at all, but I gave them her name and number.
