| Introducing Gidget! Hi everyone, Lucy's little sister came home yesterday! This is "Gidget" - AKA "Roseto's Little Surfer Girl". Some may have seen my thread last week about getting a new puppy... Gidget is a 9 week old Australian Shepherd pup.
She has been such a good girl during her first day and night at home! Doing well with her crate, eating well, pottying well, and Lucy and she are doing great. We have to keep a pretty close eye out with Lucy while she is learning to be "gentle" but Gidget is fearless and very anxious to play with Lucy. She's napping now which is a relief. Oh my goodness new puppies are a lot of work! LOL.
It's been interesting to see the differences with her vs when Lucy was a pup. She's going to be a lot of fun.
Here's a few pics of her...

| Congratulations!! She's stunning, I love the white strip on her head (what I would call a blaze on my horse!). I cannot wait to meet her in person. I told my niece you were getting an Aussie, and she's very excited for you too!
I remember when my neice's Aussie came home, he was much smaller than Jewels and we were so worried for him. Fooled Us!! I may have showed you this video before, but here's one of them 'playing'. Everything was calm until about 20 seconds into the video, and then it was ON! That's pretty much how Riley always 'played'. I'm sure that Lucy will enjoy playtime with her new sister! |

| Awwww... Lesley, she's gorgeous. My 2nd pick based on the photos you sent, I think.
Her goofy little blaze will make her stand out in the Open Black class, the judge will look down the line and see symmetrical, symmetrical, symmetrical, GIDGET, symmetrical..... LOL!
ASCA used to have non-regular puppy classes at nearly all their shows. If they still do, be sure to take her once she is fully vaccinated, the experience in invaluable.
I am excited to watch her grow.

Yay! There was just something special about her.
Usually, I'm a sucker for merles, but that lil girl just had something about her. She woulda been my pick, and I'm so happy we get to see her grow up, now.

I am excited to watch her grow. | Thank you so much everyone! Yep, it's the crookedy blaze girl!! LOL. There was just something about her that we could not resist. She has a lot of attitude and confidence, loves to play and tug, and is just a very sweet and happy girl. She is going to be a lot of fun and hopefully she will do well in conformation as well as ob and agility. We love her to pieces already.
A huge extra special thanks to Shelly who was invaluable in giving feedback on breeder, pedigree, pictures, etc.!!! I knew she had bred and showed Aussies years ago and it was invaluable to have some independent input with a breed I am completely new to. Thank you so much Shelly!
And re- the puppy classes, yes we definitely plan to do that. They had a 2-4 month and 4-6 mo baby class at the National and I could not believe how adorable they were!! My friend will be helping me get her all ready for the show ring so we are ready to go when she is fully vaccinated.

I totally love that video. That is just so adorable! Riley is adorable. And it's been way too long since I have seen you and Jewels!. Lucy is doing pretty well with her but is a bit too, shall we say, boisterous. LOL. They have had a few short play sessions that were totally cute but I have to make sure Lucy doesn't go into her doberman boxing mode!!
Lucy is actually leaving tomorrow with her handler to the AZ show (sorry I won't see you there!). It is so good that she and Gidget were able to meet and spend time over the weekend. Then it gives me a week of bonding and training with Gidget alone. Amidst work that is. Thank goodness I work from home. Tomorrow is going to be interesting though as we settle into things.
When Lucy comes back, she will probably be thinking "oh, so she's still here?!".

| I was hoping you would get the blk tri!!!! OMGosh is darling, just darling...oooooooooo. Congrats, my Sierra was a blk tri as you know by now. Your puppy is gorgeous. I have a big soft spot for blk tri pups, hmmm guess you can't tell. You are going to have so much fun. So far what is her temperament like? Is she responsive like you wanted? Sweet, active, medium, what? *grin* Very happy for you. I'm looking forward to your sharing many, many pictures of her. AND I hope you share some stories too. It is a big quest finding the right breed isn't it? Fun though. I'm happy with my choice and I hope you will be just as happy with yours. |

It is a big quest finding the right breed isn't it? Fun though. I'm happy with my choice and I hope you will be just as happy with yours. | Hi Lori! Thank you!! So far she has been super good. I have been kind of blown away with how she sticks to me like glue - in a good way - she seems to just want to follow me with a really bright, happy attitude. She really enjoys playing tug which is awesome. I've learned so much from Lucy in terms of little things to do when they are babies to help build that too. She seems to have a really good amount of energy so far too. When she is up she is happy to play and run around but then she tires out she has been able to settle pretty well. I was hoping she would have an off switch. And she is just a super love bug. Super sweet.
It's funny though - she would much prefer to sit outside vs inside when she is lounging and she gets warm easily (with all that fluff insulation! LOL) so we turned the heat down a little. It was a gorgeous day and we were also able to hung out in the back yard quite a bit.
I have this rolled vinyl that I laid out in our family room and put an X-pen on. She has a bed in there and that is where her water bowl is and I feed her there. I've been keeping the door open when she is not eating and she goes in and out; She learned super quickly that was where her water is and she has gone in there to crash on that vinyl several times. She likes that cool flooring. So different from my experience with Dobes! I have always had to lay out a blankie or bed on hard surface for my dobes to lay on!
Her potty training is also going super well. The breeder used the word "duty" which I have to transition to "potty", but every time she wakes up or plays a lot, etc, we walk over to the grass and I just say "let's go duty" on the way over and she rips over there and pees. So cute. And such a good girl. No accidents so far...
I'm sure she's going to have her wild and crazy moments though and I will have some stories to tell in no time at all!!

I'm thrilled to learn that I'll get to see Lucy this coming weekend, it's no secret that I just adore her!!! I hope all the Dobermans show up to keep the major. HAHAHA...Doberman Boxing Mode, so very true! Lucy & Jewels seem to have a similar play style, which is sure fun to watch. A video would be great (hint hint).
The timing is really nice for Lucy to go to the show right now. You can get Gidget started on a schedule without so many, uh, 'distractions' Then, progress to doing things 'with' distractions (i.e. Lucy.... ) |

Thanks Barb! Good luck in AZ!!! I know Jewels will be beautiful as usual and I see some wins in her future!!
I totally agree that it's good timing about Lucy's week away, although it's never fun having her away. But perfect time for some bonding w/ Gidget.
Wish I could have gotten them on video late last night and this morning. They were so dang cute playing in the back yard. Lucy is starting to get what "gentle" means although I still have to keep an eye out since she can be so strong without realizing it.
One funny difference highlighted Aussie vs Dobe when I took them out to potty at 5AM. I heard the sprinklers on and thought "oh crap"... Immediately thinking about dobermans and water. Lucy won't go near the lawn when sprinkler is on. But Gidget just went right over and did her thing. She says "who cares about water"! LOL. And then she wanted to lay down in the wet grass. Lucy was like <ewwww shudder>!! haha!

And then she wanted to lay down in the wet grass. Lucy was like <ewwww shudder>!! haha! | Oh my goodness, I forgot to mention the 'water'! I'm sure Gidget will transition from 'who cares about water' (i.e. I like water) to 'I LOVE WATER' just as Riley did! At that point, the water bowl becomes a personal swimming pool, a 'make your own waterfall' toy, and other fun games. We'd hoped that love of water would somehow rub off on Jewels, but no such luck! |
