Goats are so neat..... I've always loved their eyes! Thanks for the pics - I agree with JobeyV - the mom and son pic is exceptional!

As long as you can keep your goats out of your garden and yard plants. :) they are very little work at all.
I usually just sell the young ones every year, just am not into butchering anymore.

melbrod, the genetics of goat colors is very complicated for sure. This rabbit site has a good article on goat coloring. Goat Color Genetics 101 - Minifluffs Rabbitry

the goats are all gone.

last year was the worst year ever for predators on our property.

poor Bean got killed by the cougar, we tracked it and got bean's body back, it had got stuck on a log and the cougar took off when she heard us coming. We butchered her and the dogs ate raw for awhile and I canned a lot of the meat for the dogs too.

then 2 weeks later we were invaded by a pack of wolves who took the young buck.

I had tried to sell them all before all this happened but no luck finding homes for them. :(

so in order to keep the predators away the young doe and the big buck have been butchered for the dogs. I just finished canning over 50 quarts for the mutts.

we will not be getting any more goats.

we also lost a few chickens to the cougar and the wolves.

Chuck got into a fight with the cougar, when Dot got into the fight too the cougar ran off. Chuck got a few tooth holes in his throat and Dot got a slash across her shoulder. Both were lucky it was not worse.

Then Dot got into a fight with the wolves, she is very lucky to still be with us.

all this happened last summer.

I hope 2017 will be a predator free year for us.

and if any predators are seen again on the property, sadly they will be killed.

it was very stressful for a few weeks here that is for sure.

the wolf pack stuck around for about 6 weeks which kept the cougar away but very spooky hearing the wolves howling off and on and seeing their glowing eyes at night........

but it was a transient pack and they have not been around for about 5 months now.

there is just a lone wolf around and he is the last of our local pack the rest were killed off by a hunter last spring. We have not seen any sign of the cougar for quite a while.

still think all this trouble with predators has to do with all the logging in our area, sadly the wildlife are being 'evicted' from their homes.

we even have grizzly bears now, never had them before. But the bears are slowly moving down the coast following the logging roads....

someone living about 6 miles from us captured photos of a young male grizzly on their wildlife cam.

and last year 2 grizzlies were killed in the area for being on a farmers property and harassing their goats.
