| Bad breath on Daschund My sister has a 5 year old male mini Daschund, with the most horrendous breath. She has had his teeth cleaned, had the vet check him out but seems there really is no reason for his bad breath. Any ideas as to why this is? He is a cuddler but with that breath, you don't want him even to lick your hand. YUCK!!

| My mom and I both have miniature dachshunds and both of them have bad breath. My girl's is bad, but my mom's dog's breath smells like fish all the time. It's so gross. I don't know the reason.

| I would take him to a good doggy dental specialist and have his teeth thoroughly checked out. I read a recent article in the Whole Dog Journal about this and there are a lot of things that can only be seen with a dental xray and a good dentist. Once fixed the change in the dog is dramatic and most people didn't realize there was anything wrong with the teeth or the dog's activity level till the teeth were checked and fixed. |

| Dachshunds usually have bad teeth in the long run I would go to a Dog Dental Specialist does your sister brush the dogs teeth every day? Read along time ago some dogs have Strep throat & are carriers, may have something else going on sinus infection? My Dachshund Patches does not have bad breath never has had bad breath I do brush her teeth since last dental cost over $200.00. It is not normal for a dog to have bad breath if they have had regular dental care. |

| I don't know if she brushes daily but she gives mints like there is no tomorrow. I'll let her know about the dental specialist.

The worst I saw when working for vets were the yorkies and the maltese. Some of the poor things I saw had no teeth at about 8-9 years of age. I always stress to anyone I know who is getting one of these types of dogs the importance of dental care.
