| stray dog So we just moved into our new house this past weekend. Today during the morning and afternoon, I noticed a stray dog when taking Risa out. It's a male dog and doesn't appear to have a collar on. He keeps trying to approach Risa and she totally freaks out. (Thank goodness she's not in heat!) I yelled at the dog a couple times and then it runs away. Risa was attacked by a loose dog a few weeks ago, and so I'm nervous having this stray wandering around. I didn't see it when I took Fiddler out, so I'm not sure what it will do when it sees another male dog. I didn't notice the dog before today, so hopefully it will just find its way home. (He doesn't look skinny, but it's hard to tell with all of his long fur.) If he sticks around, I'm afraid I'll have to call animal control. The local shelter is also a kill shelter. I guess I'll try and get closer to see if it has a collar on. This really stinks. It's horrible not being able to walk around your own property without having to worry about being bothered and possibly attacked by a stray! I did try calling the animal shelter to see what they'd say, but they're closed for the day. Other than seeing if it has a collar on and reporting it to animal control, I don't know what else to do. Bringing it to my house is not an option because of Risa and Fiddler.

| Any news on the loose dog? I'd offer the poor thing some food and water if it really is a stray. Put the stuff far away from where you walk your two. It's so hot out.
I've had a couple"wanderers" here...a few with tags so I could ferry them to the vet that did their rabies shots (the clinic would not give me the owner info). There are two yellow Labs that show up from time and time and want water, then go home! I know they live down one neighborhood from me and I've called their owner before.
The worst was an emaciated Collie mix I kept in the garage for 1/2 a day until AC could pick her up. She slept on a tiny carpet at my back door. I could not let her in the house because my two went crazy at the sight or smell of her. I do fear she was PTS by the pound because she was in such poor condition....but that has to be better than being hit by a car or starving to death. I gave her a meal and some water, but I did feel awful when they took her away. |

| Your sure its a mixed breed? If not you could try to identify it and get him to a breed rescue.

| Didn't see the dog this evening when I got home from the gym. Will see if he reappears tomorrow. I'm pretty sure he's a full blooded Keeshond. (We used to own one, and so I'm familiar with the breed.) I hadn't thought about breed rescue. Next time I see him, I"ll put my dogs away and see if he'll come up to me. Hopefully he went home and won't show up again.

| Good luck with him. We haven't had a problem in a while but we have had our share. One thought he was just going to move in and would get into our fence and stick around, running away when he saw us but would go back with the dogs. Finally he got to the point he felt comfortable enough and wanted to try to run in the house with our dogs when we let them in. Didn't happen. I ended up havign to call AC on him and it does feel horrible when you think of his fate. |

| Stray dogs are really worrisome. Hopefully the dog found it's way home. Keeshounds are pretty distinguishable, so if you think that is what he is breed rescue is a great idea.

| Ohh it must be so hard for you all, we dont have that in Sweden or in the UK that much, Sweden nothing at all, but UK it might happen, but that often.
I feel for you all who have to see them and not being able to help.
Bless you.
Jess

| My husband saw him Friday morning, but we haven't seen him since then. Hope he's relaxing at his own house!
