| Another new member from Texas Hey everyone. I am looking for a breeder to work with for a new puppy for this summer. Hopefully around May/June. My wife has told me we have to go red. Not sure if I can talk her in to a male or not. I have read about these breeders in TX from here on DT:
Horizon
Merrimac
Rhapsody
Sunburg
Sunking
Touchstone
Van Orman
Hopefully I can establish a relationship with one and find my new puppy.
I have had one doberman in the past (lost her to an ex). A black female that was the best dog I have ever had. She was so gentle and sweet. I could trust her with any other dog or person. Here is a pic of Roxy:
I have wanted another one for years but am just now at a point I can take on the responsibility again. I can't wait. |

| I have a bitch from Touchstone, and she is AWESOME, but I believe Alisa's next litter will be all black.

| You mentioned you could trust your old doberman with any dog or person.
In that case I would go with a female males are known to have male to male aggression and I would not even leave my low drive old male unattended with another male, ever.
Just some food for thought! Good luck with your search and thanks for doing research ahead of time! |

I had actually heard that females don't like having other females in their homes. Is that not the case? I've never had a male but would love a big boy. My Roxy was only about 65lbs. I have a 4 year old so I have to make sure that I have a dog that can handle children. Roxy was constantly tormented by a Yorkie and never lost her temper. |

As for having a small child, going with a reputable breeder and raising the puppy right will stack the deck massively in your favor!
Here's some links on same sex aggression Male on Male Aggression Advice wanted about same sex aggression (females)
Also just a small guideline on size for you: (from the dpca) Quote: |
Height at the withers: Dogs 26 to 28 inches, ideal about 27 1/2 inches; Bitches 24 to 26 inches, ideal about 25 1/2 inches.
| Weight of course is variable in their but i've seen bitches average 50-70lbs and dogs 70-90lbs (rough average of what i've seen, not a guarantee)

| My girl is awesome with my small dog (~7 lbs) and children of all ages. I bring her to my gym with me all the time, and there are regularly kids from ages 1-12 running around and petting on her. Her sister passed her TDI cert, and is training in several sports.
Going with a good breeder will definitely stack the odds in your favor. You should ask around to people who actually own dogs of their breeding so you can get a good idea of what to expect.

| I'm the member with the Rhapsody boy and I couldn't sing praises for him or his breeder enough. Irina, my boy's breeder, loves the breed and is definitely breeding to improve it. She is a wealth of knowledge and has always been very warm and inviting to me. Her dogs are all amazing and my boy, who she picked for me, was/is the perfect pick for me. He's smart, capable, and gorgeous - as are all her dogs that I"ve met. If you have any questions about Rhapsody you're welcome to send me a private message.
