| New member looking for a rescue Hey guys and gals im not a dobie owner yet but have been on the hunt for quite a while. Im located close to pensacola fl and am looking for rescues close to there. (4-6 hours in any direction) I have already found gulf coast doberman rescue and filled out their adoption application. (any idea how long it typically takes them to get back to you?) Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance! |

Give them a couple of weeks to respond to you and if you haven't heard anything back by then I would contact them again.
Florida has quite a few reputable rescues located throughout the state. Here is a list of the rescues that I would recommend:

Georgia has the Atlanta Doberman Pinscher Rescue but they do not adopt out of state. There is another Doberman rescue that covers NFL/GA but I will not recommend them.
Louisiana has Gulf Coast Doberman Rescue and thats it
What about the Tallahassee, FL rescue or Crystal River, FL rescue- they are within 4-6 hrs of you aren't they? All of the rescues that I listed are very reputable and work together. Please don't let distance be a stumbling block for you
How far away from Jacksonville, FL are you?
Also, you can PM "JonseysMom" here on DT. She lives in FL and is a volunteer/foster for GCDR- she may be able to help you with your search

| I would definitely give GCDR a little while, sometimes it takes them a bit to check emails and get back. Terri is constantly busy with intakes, there is never a shortage of dobes needing help here in the south.
Depending if I am the closest out of the volunteers I may be doing your home inspection no worries I don't bite.... much! I wish I had a GCDR dog as a foster right now I would invite you to come out to the Agility Trial that is in Pensacola this weekend to meet one. (BTW you are still invited to come out, I just won't have a foster dobe, LOL)
Welcome from your kinda close neighbor (I am near Destin)
PS.
If you would like to PM me your name maybe I can ask what the status is of your application

The Tallahassee and crystal river rescue are both options, I emailed Diane at the crystal river rescue to see if i could get a current list of what she has, all of the dogs on the site are listed as "placed" which i would assume means adopted? The tallahasse rescue doesnt have any dogs that im super interested in. (im pretty dead set on cropped and docked with both ears that stand) I am by no means saying that i would reject a dog that fit us perfectly just because of his or her appearance buuut im much less likely to drive 4-6 hours to take that chance (that why im hoping for a rescue that has a good selection of dogs so if i go to look at one that ends up not being for us we can look at all the others there. |

If they don't have a dog that you are currently interested in, that doesn't mean that they won't have one in a week or so
What I would do if I was you would be to fill out applications with all of the rescues that you would be willing to travel to should a dog come along that you may be interested in. The most important thing is that you need to be approved by the rescue PRIOR to adopting a dog from them. The rescue will need to do a home check, a vet check and check references. Adopters who are approved are the ones who are contacted first so it would give you a better chance of getting the "look" of the dog that you are interested in Those that are cropped and docked are high on allot of people's "want" list. I'm sure that you already know this, but Doberman's with natural ears and tails have the same qualities and traits of thise that are cropped and docked Hopefully you will find the dog that you are looking for and the rescue that you choose will do their best to match you with the perfect dog that would fit your family and lifestyle the best. Good Luck to you
"monicae" is also a foster and volunteer for GCDR and she would also be another member that you could contact as well. |

If you would like to PM me your name maybe I can ask what the status is of your application | I definitely understand the constant influx of work, im more just wanting to make sure my app was received and looks good and is what they need, i only sent it in three days ago i believe. If you happen to be the one who inspects us i look forward to welcoming you into our home! And thanks for the offer to check on my app, you have a PM. What exactly is an agility trial? Will there be GCDR dogs out there? Also i feel like i already know the answer but when i go to a shelter, am i correct in assuming we can bring our other little dog to check for compatibility? |

| He's cute!
I hope you have your heart set on a female (male-male aggression is big in the breed)
As far as what is agility... There is a whole forum on Working Sports but here is a quick video of me and my boy doing agility Open JWW TITLE RUN! - YouTube

| I highly recommend gulf coast Doberman rescue, they are great. My boy came from there, and I was extremely pleased with them through the whole process and couldn't have asked for a better dog. Everybody that I have dealt with through there is fabulous!!
Give them time to get back with you. They are very busy and a lot of these volunteers have jobs as well. It took a few weeks for them to get my app reviewed and vet check completed, so just be patient, it's worth the wait!
One more thing to remember when going through any rescue is that what you see on the website is not all they have. They are constantly getting dogs in (unfortunately), so it's good to have everything completed, and when the perfect dog comes along, you will be ready! Good luck with your search :-) Sent from my iPhone using Petguide.com Free App

| I have definitely heard that male male aggression can be present, i just kind of assumed that because of the drastic size difference the doberman wouldnt feel the slightest bit threatened, that and smoltz is pretty much the most laid back dog in the world worst case scenario for aggression on his part is licking him to death |
