He is finally tired today, but I think he is still on edge..... | My advice is to give him some time to adjust and settle in (this could take up to several weeks, depending on his history and temperament). In that time just work on building trust and learning the basic rules for living in your home.
As for tiring him out, these dogs are very active both mentally and physically. Make sure you take him on walks or play games in the yard to let him get out his physical exercise. I also encourage you to do some training, small bits at a time (maybe 5-15 minutes) and even use puzzle type toys/games. I always found that Rowan was most content when he was tired both mentally and physically.
Oh...and post more pics. That will def help.

| | Lil Pup | Thank you for that info. I've been reading.
He doesn't like being confined to a crate and does not want to sleep either. I think he is on edge. He's chewed through two large rope toys already.
He is finally laying down with my arm on his shoulder. He sleeps for 2-5 mins...then he is up roaming around the house. I guess he is not comfortable with his surrounding yet?

| He's cute - I love red boys! When I got an older puppy, I hand fed him for a few days asking him to look at me for each bite of food. I think it helped our focus. Also, I found the lessons in "The Power of Positive Training" are a great foundation for training at home. Training tires out my pups! |

I guess he is not comfortable with his surrounding yet? | Have you only had him for a day? It can be very stressful for dogs living in shelters and then moving to a new place. All that transition takes time and patience. Sounds to me like he might be a little anxious and is having difficulty settling. I would give him space and just let him see that he is safe now with you. Don't overdo it by trying to take him everywhere and meet everyone yet. Let him settle in.
Once he seems more comfortable you will probably start to see more of his real personality come out. I suggest using this time to research good training facilities near you (if you haven't already) and get him signed up for a class when he is ready. This will be great to help train him and bond.
