| New to the site/new to Dobes! Good evening!
Just like the title says, I'm new to both the site, and Dobes. I recently dogsat for Dobe owners and fell head over heels in love. So I researched the breed and found them to be an ideal match for me. Additionally, my family encouraged me to get one because several members have owned them in the past (mom had one before I was born, aunt owned one, cousin currently has a fawn).
At first, I thought the puppy route was the only way to go. Then I came across the rescue option. The cause tugged at my heart strings and so did the many stories I read. Also, the Dobe owners I dogsat for had an AMAZING rescue.
So it is with INDESCRIBABLE pride that I tell you after my home inspection is completed on Friday by the adoption agency, I will be making a 5+ hour drive to Largo,FL in Sunday evening to meet my sweet boy,Junior, and bring him home.
Junior is a 2 year old cropped and docked black and rust boy. I am considering changing his name just so we have a completely fresh start (I have read concurring and dissenting opinions on the matter) and I'd love to hear more from you guys! |

| | Agility Addict | Welcome to the forum from New Zealand, and good on you for adopting!
I don't think there's anything wrong with renaming a dog Sometimes they really suit the names they come with, but it's entirely up to you!
Remember to post pics when you have some!

| Welcome, and I can't wait to see pics of your boy once you get him. Rescues rock, and thanks for choosing to give one a good home.
As for changing his name...I did with my boy and he learned his new name within days. He probably got sick of hearing his new name because I said it so much to make sure he learned it quickly lol! Sent from my iPhone using Petguide.com Free App

| I have a beautiful puppy whom I adore, from a great breeder whom I also adore, but knowing what I know now, and if given the option to do it over again I would absolutely go the adult rescue route. Congratulations for choosing wisely!!
I think once you have your boy and get to know him the name will come. Dogs live in the moment and he will easily adapt to his new name, should you change it.
This is the BEST place for any new (or old) dobe owner, so please make DT like a second home.
And yes, pictures are a must. |

| Good for you, and thanks for rescuing!! Should be a great experience.
As far as the name, from my experience most rescue dogs don't know their name anyways, unless the rescue and/or fosters taught him. In most cases it should be quite simple, and really not a big deal. |

| | Alpha | Hi welcome from Scotland and big thumbs up for rescuing.
I've changed the name on two of my rescues because of the bad association both had with them, (submissive peeing, running away when called etc. )
both girls improved dramatically and took to their new names instantly. Sent from my iPhone using Petguide.com Free App |
