Hi from Georgia!

Hi all! I'm new to the forum and wanted to introduce myself! My name is Christina and I am the proud owner of a 1 year old German Pinscher (not min. pin ) named Mercy and a 4 month old doberman named Judge. I am currently in the process of standing Judge's ears and boy are his ears stubborn! His vet informed me today that because Judge's ears sit low on his head (and they do) they cannot force the ear pockets out of his ears (and the vet believes that as he grows the ear pockets will correct themselves). Hahaha! My vet is so funny!

I'm curious though, has anyone else heard of this? I did not get Judge from a "reputable" breeder (his litter was a supposed "accident") so he doesn't conform to the breed standard, which is fine because he is a companion, but I would like his ears to stand correctly. I am now going to continue posting with bumpers without the help of the vet and hope that I can get them to stand correctly. This isn't my first time posting (I did Mercy's ears and our very first doberman's ears {he is no longer with us ), so I have experience. I have just never heard that ear pockets will correct themselves, but then again this is the first time we've had issues with ear pockets!

Thanks in advance for any advice! I look forward to talking with everyone!!

**I have attached pictures of my pups as well. Mercy is the pup wearing a red collar and Judge is the pup without a collar in the pics.

Welcome to DT and hello from Texas. There have been a lot of discussions about ear pockets that you can use the search button for. I do not know if ear pockets will correct themselves, but if your puppy is only 4 months old you still have time to correct the problem. I'm sure someone on here will give you some tips or links.

Thank you for the warm welcome! I have come across quite a few helpful discussions in regards to ear pockets, already! Still nothing about them correcting themselves though! Haha!

*And such a beautiful boy Max is!!!!

Hi and welcome from Manitoba. Could you show us some pictures of the pockets from behind and the side? This may help a little.

Oh, also, they are pretty unlikely to fix themselves, I've never heard of that.

I'm not really going to be much help here, I was lucky enough to have his breeder re-taping his ears weekly. In my very limited knowledge I don't think they will correct themselves.
But more importantly, I want to welcome you to the forum and congratulate you on your handsome boy.
Then I need to request more pictures of both of your pups. I love a German Pinscher (almost as much as a dobe) and Mercy is lovely! So, in short... Welcome! And more pics please!

Thank you! I will post more pictures ASAP! I tried to take some from a side angle last night, but Judge didn't want to cooperate. He would shift his head at the exact same time that my flash went off causing a big blur! Haha! In his defense we had a German Shepard and a Labradoodle over for a play date at the time so he was distracted. I did get a couple of pictures though (to show how they look when he is standing his ears). When Judge is really interested in something though, the tips touch. I am at a loss as the vet is basically washing their hands of me (and I love this vet! ) and I have never dealt with an ear pocket....

Well, more later, I must get ready for my daughter's parent-teacher conference!

**More pics of Mercy to follow as well!

Hope everyone has a fantastic Wednesday!!!

Welcome to DT. The pockets in your pup's ears will NOT correct themselves. They are however, totally correctable even tho his ear set is low.

Here is a link to aEar Posting Directions--A Photo Tutorial of My Method tutorial of how to post with bumpers, which will straighten out the pockets.

Good luck and keep us posted on your progress.

Wow! That was extremely informative, Shelly! Thank you so much! Looks like I will be running to the store ASAP to get supplies! In the past I have used the mole foam and tampon methods and have had great success, but for Judge....not so much! Again, thank you so much for sending the link and I will post pictures of his progress!
