| | Ash_fable | Bit about me Hello. My name is Ash. I've been interested in dobermans for a while, and I will be acquiring one once I'm in a more stable position. I will want to train mine for protection work, but it'll also be a great companion animal.
My goal is to have my own private zoo and breeding facility of exotic animals to conserve their populations in captivity. I've already started my little zoo and I own three snakes and a red fox (I've got the proper licenses, don't worry, I know what I'm doin' ). I'll become USDA licensed so that I may educate the public about red foxes and take him to schools as an animal ambassador.
Before you ask, my doberman and my fox--as well as future animals--will have minimal contact. Dobermans can have high prey drives, and I wouldn't want anything to happen. Just like I would never introduce a cat to my fox, I wouldn't introduce a fox to my doberman. I'm quite used to the fact I'll be keeping many of my animals apart, so that's not a problem.
I've wanted a doberman for several years. I just want to be sure to be in a good spot before I acquire anymore pets. I think they're one of the prettiest dogs out there and I really admire their loyalty and trainability and I'd like to add one to my life. But I've got to learn more about them. I always like to know everything I possibly can about an animal regarding care, diet, and temperament before I bring it into my life. So that's why I figured I'd sign up. Gotta learn as much as I can.
I look forward to meeting everybody here and hearing about their experiences with their dobies. |

| Welcome to DT!!
Wow, you have a very intriguing lifestyle! I admire your passion for wildlife - I myself am a huge fan of red foxes and know a couple of other people online who own them.
Glad to have you aboard, and learn you shall! I'm always learning things everyday from this place, I'm surprised the knowledge isn't pouring out of my ears by now! And what I learn from my own experiences I also love to share!

Thank-you for the warm welcomes. It seems like a really nice place here. | Can't say that I've heard of it. The people I know are from an artist community. Sounds cool though - I may check it out and see if any of the people I know are there.

| | Ash_fable | I'll post some pictures of him once I download some from my camera. His name is Fable--like from Aesop's Fables. He's 1 year and 9 months old. He's extremely fluffy right now since he's got his winter coat in. |

| Welcome from Canada. Thank you for doing your research before bringing a dobe home. They are a wonderful breed but require a lot of commitment and know-how which you will find on this forum. |

Seriously, OP, welcome to the forum, and please pay attention to the advise given. There are lots of people willing to tell you they have "the best" dogs/breeding program, but can't back up that claim. They don't do any titling, health testing, or even give much consideration about what dogs to breed other than Male+Female=Puppies To Sell.

I agree but he hasn't bought the dog yet and he's asking the questions before hand. |

Paulina | Yes, that is another thread, and yes, it is relevent. The OP said that they liked that breeder's dogs and their breeding program, and that they had decided that that is where they would get their dog from. So, yes, the OP does need to do quite a bit more research.

So, yes, the OP does need to do quite a bit more research. | Why don't you quote THIS part that OP wrote in that thread you brought back after reading comments on those breeders: Don't worry, I'm not going to leap into anything. That's why I came here. I was looking for a recommended breeder list but I didn't see one, so I figured I should ask about one of the one's I was looking at. But then I saw someone posted a link to some, so I'll check that out.
The "super-sized" thing appealed to me, but the main reason I was looking at them was because they talked a good bit about how they've been good guard/protection dogs, and that's what I'm looking for. But I'm sure there are a lot more good breeders who specialize in that area also.
I'm extremely serious about animals and where I acquire them from. As for where I'm located, I'm in Utah. But really, distance isn't an issue at all, so it's almost not worth mentioning. For the right pup from the right breeder, I'll travel or have it shipped.
I think this pretty much shows there was NO NEED to bring any of that back.
