Hi! I am a new momma to a handsome baby boy named Auto. My husband and I picked him up last week and he was 6wks old. I would like to extend a tremendous thank you to DobermanTalk. My husband and I lost our BELOVED 17yr Shih-Tzu, Fenton. We knew we would never have another ShihTzu again so we started looking at different dogs. My girlfriend brought up a doberman, and we began our research on the breed. We countless hours researching as much as we possibly could over the past few months. We covered everything possible about the breed and hit all aspects we could think of, library, forums, websites, youtube, contacting & talking with breeders, talking with trainers, as well as other doberman owners. DobermanTalk was a GREAT help to a lot of the questions we had or it also brought up some of the questions we didn't think of. I am very thankful to have a place to turn to for guidance and advice. :)

Welcome to DT. Yikes, 6 weeks is really really young to leave his mother. Circumstances being as they are get him IMMEDIATELY into some type of puppy class or doggy day care with dogs that have all their immunizations. Being away from his litter that early he will be missing out on a LOT of important socialization that is crucial to his development. He will need to interact with other dogs, preferably puppies on a DAILY basis to learn social skills that will be very difficult to fix if he misses out on.
Can I ask why he is so young????

Auto is 7wks old now. He amazes me daily. :) As far as him being too young, he was weaned and eating kibble (with a little water added). He has his first set of shots and his second set trip is scheduled. Either way, I'm glad that I'm on DT so that I can get feedback from experienced dobe owners that can help us stay on a good path. We are socializing him and he's lined up for puppy classes and playtime. It has been almost 20 years since I've owned/raised a puppy and I want to make this as positive for Auto as I can. Thanks for the feed back and the welcome!

It seems you are not familiar with the laws of your state...

Pennsylvania Dog Laws

"(b) Illegal to transfer ownership of certain puppies.--It shall be unlawful to barter, trade, raffle, sell, auction or in any way transfer ownership of a dog under eight weeks of age, unless the dog has been orphaned and it becomes necessary to transfer ownership of the orphaned dog to a nonprofit kennel, or from a nonprofit kennel with approval by a licensed doctor of veterinary medicine."
