Hello everyone, I have a new 9 week old doberman puppy whose name is Nikko. We are from Portland, Oregon. We just got his ears cropped this Monday and are now going through the painful process. Does anyone have any tips on how to make them feel more comfortable during this process?[IMG][/IMG][IMG][/IMG][IMG][/IMG]

Hello and welcome from Portland, OR too!

They usually get accustomed to the "cup on the head" within about 2 days. The pup is somewhat sedated the first 24hrs and after that they need to get used to having it there and know that it hurts a bit. Did your vet give you anything for the discomfort/pain ?

I would talk to your vet, especially if he starts bleeding. Can you please post a photo so we know what is going on with him? Are the ears taped across the top of the head, attached to a cup, held up in a wire contraption, or something else? who did the cropping?

Need lots more photos of the little guy. They are so cute. Which side of Portland are you at?

I got his ears cropped at crossroads veterinary hospital in Sherwood, OR. I did get some pain medication and his ears are taped up to a cup. It did take a couple days for the dog to get used to the cup and it's has gotten a lot easier now. We are in the SE part of Portland. Thank you all for the help.

I go to Sherwood every Tuesday night for agility training with my Kelpie. Linda Z has her Montwood dogs there in the same class as me. Sometimes I bring Lana along for the exposure but that annoys the Kelpie a bit and puts her off for the session.
