| Thanks everyone. indeed this is a cool site very informative.
Dobes are really strong. sometimes Fred would really pull and the choker chain is just leaving marks.. sometimes causing the hair to fall you would see the skin i was told, the hair will regrow naturally and maybe a little amount of petroleum jelly applied will make "renew " the skin.. Fred doesn't mind if it's leaving some marks.. he is just so strong
by the way, is there a way to get one of those cool dobe shirts??
I really appreciate the suggestions from everyone.
Thanks, again!

| I will certainly try the bottled spray water yeah true enough, even they are big .. a little water will calm them
and true enough to the saying "A tired Doberman is a Happy Doberman" .After a walk, fred would love to go straight to the water faucet..he would sit down and wait for me to open the faucet for him to drink from the water hose [LOL] this is really funny..
ill keep you guys posted on his walking.
muchos,

| Welcome from Wyoming U.S.A.! The water spray works great, I too worked with one of my mom's male dobermans that had an exceptional PULL....also, as others have advised, training and learning to train, and repetitive bonding and daily excersize makes life for you AND Fred so much less complicated, and calm. Wonderful Fred has a Dad like you now to enjoy a lifetime.

| Hello from San Diego, California! What as nice looking Doberboy you have! He is very young still - they really don't mature until about 3, so you have a while until he matures and grows up. They really do need not only exercise, but training and mental stimulation, because they are SO smart. Obedience classes are very important, and socialization and lots of different kinds of experiences. They thrive on learning.
I also have found the Illusion collar from Cesar Millan (The Dog Whisperer) is very effective. But if you decide to try it, don't order the large, that they say is good for Dobermans - it's too small. Get the X-large. It's a very "friendly" collar, but I found it works quite nicely to prevent pulling. I am only about 5' tall, and have bilateral hand injuries and permanent weakness, and it allows me to walk our dogs quite easily. Lois |

| Welcome to the site to you and your handsome doberguy.
My best recommendation for good walks is a lot of patience. You may not go far at first, but in time they just get it. When they pull you don't go anywhere, or just simply about face and go in the other direction. Even if it is only after 2-3 steps.
Another thing to try is a basically a circle. With Fred on your left (heel position or just loose leash walking), anytime he tries to get ahead of you you quickly cut him off by walking into him/in front of him. You may start off literally walking in a small circle and going nowhere, but you can slowly increase the size of the circle until he realizes that he doesn't get ahead by moving ahead.
I'm glad to see your brother had such a wonderful home to give Fred to. It sounds like Fred and you are a family. |
