| Hello from Northern California Hello All!
I've been lurking for the past week reading up on Doberman topics. Our family is getting a 1 yr old Doberman from Texas in 2 weeks. My sister, who lives there, spotted a Doberman on craigslist. The owner needed to rehome him because nobody in the family was spending any time with this boy. He was an outside dog with no family interaction at all. Anyway, my sister went to visit the dog and evaluated him for me and she is now fostering him until we can get him. We are really excited, and the information here has been very helpful already.
We have one 6 yr old lab, Ranger, who we also rescued last year. I have to share his picture because he is so sweet!

| you realize you may have male-male aggression issues... even if both are neutered. Just a chance you are taking. Doberman males don't all get along well with other males in the house.

| | Alpha | Not all male Dobermans have aggression issues. I think it is wonderful that you have the ability to offer your home to another dog in need. Please post pictures when you get your new dog home. What part of northern Ca.? I live about 1:40 south of Sacramento.
Anyway, best of luck and welcome to a forum that will offer you alot.
BTW, your lab is awesome looking! |

Doberman males don't all get along well with other males in the house. | I admit that this was an issue we thought about very carefully. Ultimately, we feel that we took a calculated risk. Ranger is a submissive male and has acted that way with all dogs he has met. We think this will most likely not pose a problem for Hector, who seems to be more dominant.
Thanks for the welcome, everyone.

I uploaded the picture to Photobucket, and then I embedded the image code they provide to you. Did that confuse you some more? I hope not. If you go to Image hosting, free photo sharing & video sharing at Photobucket, you'll see what I mean. Hope that helps. |

| I went back and I read through DT the topics posted about male on male aggression. I figured that DobermansRules's comment should not be taken lightly.
The links and discussions were very eye opening. I thought that having one submissive male dog would fix the problem as well as both dogs being neutered, but that doesn't appear to be a guarantee. I still want a doberman, but since I already have a male lab (submissiveness notwithstanding), I am wondering whether this is really a good idea. I thought I had done my research, but I missed some really important stuff here. Ugh. |
