| Welcome Bella I’m not really a new member; I’ve been hovering here since about December and have thrown in a comment or two. My initial thought was that I would write something on the Rainbow Bridge forum about my 10+ year old male that I had to have put down on 12/4 due to complications from CVI. I just could never bring myself to do it and instead sobbed through the other RB stories (Little Black Hairs….geez). Anyhow, I had been watching the rescue sites since about January and was approved by Hand Me Down Dobes, a Columbus, OH rescue organization. Right after I was approved I got a call from another organization that had my name about a 3 year old red female that was being given up. It was a nice opportunity to be able to meet the owner, see where she lived, and know her background. Bella came to live with us last Sunday, 7/6. She’s a sweet, beautiful girl. If I can figure out how to do it, I’ll post a picture. My issue is that most rescues end up in a better place; but not in this case, because she was perfectly happy where she was. Her life was turned upside-down and I think she’s very confused. I’ve never had a rescue before so I don’t know how long it normally takes to adjust to a new home. She doesn’t seem to want to play with any of her toys or even go for walks. I’m home most of the time so able to spend a lot of time with her. Any thoughts/suggestions are appreciated. |

| We were in a similar situation w/ a 5 1/2 year old male. Initially he was what appeared to be in a state of depression, he would hardly eat & just moped around. We were patient & caring w/ him though & he finally (w/i about 2 weeks or so) started to come around & actually turned out to be one of the best Dobermans we've had. Barring nothing physically wrong w/ your new addition she should do the same over time. Patience & Love!!!!
Good luck! & keep us posted. |

| Hello and welcome from another Ohioan. I have never had a rescue, but I would give her time to get use to the new situation. Like you said, her life is turned up side down. Let her settle in. Maybe try an obedience class with her for some bonding. Good luck. Just say you are from Lakewood, we are in Strongville!

| Perfectly normal behaviour. Don't worry, just let her adjust at her own pace. In fact, you should try to ignor her in a sense. Soon enough, she'll be coming to you for pats and lovin.

| Hi from San Diego. You know, they are SO smart, and really know what's going on. They do grieve, and IMHO, they remember and wonder and hope. Our boy Alex, who was the center of our doberpack, died in April, and while one of the boys is perfectly OK with it, the female (his mate) and the other boy are still in obvious turmoil and grief. They look for him, they get depressed because the dynamics are different - but they are slowly resolving. She'll come around, as she realizes you will also love her. Poor girl. Thank you for helping her. Lois |

| Thanks to everyone for your support and comments. I did hire a trainer to come by and work with us on reinforcing her obedience training. Hopefully we'll be out walking and hiking around soon. I'll keep you posted. |

| Welcome and thanks for giving Bella a loving new home. I'm sure it's heartbreaking seeing her so down about leaving her old family but i'm sure she'll be happier soon and realise that she's got another family to love her. |

| Welcome and CONGRATS on your new girl! I am also sorry about the loss of Rommel.
Prior to Petey I had three rescue dogs, they came to me at the ages of 17 months, 3 years and 12 years old. The 3 year old had the hardest time of the three of them adjusting to our home and family and he was truly depressed for about six months. We never heard him bark until he was with us for a year. He did finally settle in and bond very closely with me.
