| Hello and welcome.
This is a great forum for learning. Sounds like you will have a lot of reading and catching up to do, with your new boy.
Dobermans are a fantastic breed, but they are a lot of dog, even from a reputable breeder, and with a good, healthy, socialized start.
Since I don't know your particular situation, I won't try to speak to that, but typically puppies from pet stores come from either puppy mills or very disreputable and unethical breeders, so you may have a few strikes against you, starting out.
As for an animal being sold with kennel cough, that is deplorable, and I wish your boy a speedy recovery.
Oh, and just FYI, since your post seems to indicate that you believe the common misconception that Min Pins (no such thing as teacup and medium, btw) and Dobes are different versions of the same breed, they are not.
Again, welcome, and start reading!

| Uh oh... I'm sure someone else is going to go more in depth about this but please please please... Do not buy any more pets from the pet shop. You will find that everyone here is passionate about the breed and the scary beginnings of pups from those places will make your blood boil.
If you need help there are some great threads loaded with info about house breaking and the like.
Welcome from Pittsburgh.

| Hi and welcome from San Diego! You can take your boy out to housetrain him. Just keep him away from other dogs until he's better, and be sure to have the vet clear him medically. Be sure, when you have him neutered, to ask the vet to check his clotting factor (which most reputable vets will insist on doing on every Doberman they treat, before they'll do any surgical procedure). And you will definitely want to take him, once he's better, and a bit older, to a puppy socialization and obedience class... they really soak up information like little (well, BIG) sponges, and learn to behave really nicely. They are SUCH good dogs! None better! You'll never go back to anything else. Lois |
