| Building up her confidence should help to train her. Maybe try working on something easier to teach that is less submissive. Like the heel, dogs learn very quickly using the 90 and 180 turning method. Or just a simple stay command. Anything really besides the down.
Down puts the dog in such a vulnerable position that she probably isn't confident or comfortable enough right now. Also to get her to down, you could try getting on your knees and gently slip out one foot from under her, give the down command, rewarding for each lower movement.
I had a really hard time getting my fearful, stubborn girl to do a down and that is how I taught her.
Whatever you do, don't get frustrated. Keep sessions short and be positive! Good Luck!! |
