| Killer Puppy Paws Seriously though... I know that plenty of us have dealt with mouthy dobersharks, but has anyone had issues with their puppy being too vocal with their paws?
Toorc has learned not to jump and that people will not acknowledge him unless he is sitting and calm, but when he is laying with me or even if I am sitting on the floor with him, I cannot trust him near my face because he will punch the bajeezus outta me
I have tried to pinch between his paws when he does something unwanted with his punchers, but other than deterring him from jumping, it has no effect. I also let out a loud "ouch" out of reaction and he gets that guilty look on his face like he knows he did wrong but it's like he never learns from it. And he probably is still too young to figure out the personal space rule (IE no dobe butt on laptop keyboard while I type lol)
Any advice would be truly appreciated. I don't think my glasses can take another puppy blow lol |

| Ah, the Dober punch. When Chase gets too rough I calmly say 'no' and immediately stop all interaction. If he starts to nip or bark, he gets a time out in his crate ( it can be 30 seconds to 2 minutes). Once out of the crate, and he chooses to be more gentle, he gets some loving.

| It's how I got waken up for awhile.... I also ended up with raw hands I had to get medicated cream for from her slapping her feet across them when I taught her down
I did what DogsR4life did and it's really helped though, she's still a foot flinging monster because that's her but "ow" and "no" cause a cease and desist

| Ok, I'll try the ouch and ignore, cease playtime/lovins thing. I have to stop myself from laughing when it happens too because when I do react, he does the funniest, guiltiest look and I let it out haha Sent from my iPhone using Petguide.com Free App |

| Oh my goodness...Jager sounds like a horse running and stomping in the house. If he doesn't get the attention he wants or deserves he just gets louder and more obnoxious! When that doesn't work he tend to "punch" or box at me or the other dogs. I've had a couple "fat" lips because of him as well.

| I do wish that Elka had picked up "paw inhibition" in the same way that she did bite inhibition. She doesn't slap or punch us very often, but she does stomp my feet far more often than I'm fond of. |

| I've stepped on Toorc's poor little feet much more than he has trampled on mine unfortunately he likes to walk in between my legs and then try to dart one direction while I'm taking that step lol Sent from my iPhone using Petguide.com Free App |

| Finley does this! I take him away from whatever situation he did it in, into his playpen witha toy. I want him to know if his not gentle he cant be that close to me.yet i dont want his play pen to be a bad place hence the toy.
He is getting it, i just think he is a pawy dog in general. He does stop tho:-)
He literally just headbutted me under eye a minute ago so looks like i have a shiner for tomorrow :-/..

| Rouleaux liked to wake me up in the morning this way.
We have only collided heads once or twice, but I have to say the dober-boxing hurts!
He is begining to outgrow the behavior, and now when you ask him for his paw to shake, most of the time you had better catch it!!!
ow
for a guy with small puppy feet he has some power in those long horse legs!

| Whiskey doesn't do this to me but he'll be just standing watching me in the kitchen and his sister will walk by and he'll punch her straight in the face. He is such a rude dog. He does it to every dog he plays with. Wish I could figure out how to train that away. I don't know the command for "stop being a jerk and punching people" |

| I can not stand this. It is entirely disrespectful and pushy and I feel it is completely unacceptable. If your dog responds to verbal corrections I would very seriously say ah ah or no sir, or whatever word you use. I would not hesitate to correct this. When the dog gets to my boys size, he can easily reach our eyes and could potentially damage them. I had a scar on my face when I first got him from where he did this to get attention. That is so not happening again! Neither do I let him fling my hands off of whatever I'm doing. He does this to others to get them to pet him, but if he starts getting pushy with me, he is told to go lay down |

| Marceline doesn't punch, but my husband complains that she gives him a "flat tire" whenever he's walking near her. She does try to dig the treat from my hand for the down command before plopping her butt down. |

| Caes loves to give you a punch, whether its in the face to wake me up in the morning or when he is hungry and sitting by the cupboard doesnt get him food.
I think its part of teaching him "paw" as he pretty much reverts to paw whenever he wants something, however he hasnt learned the concept of gently giving paw...its just SMASH have my foot in your face... |

| Some Dobes are "handsier" than others. Tali's not a puncher but Fiona is.
Pick a method of response and stick with it. If you change it up too often he'll never figure out all your responses to his punches mean the same thing "Don't do that". If yelling "ouch" in a hurt voice gets his attention to stop, then go with that. He may not remember a minute later and be back to punching you but he's a puppy; rinse and repeat.
Their minds are a sieve sorting out and keeping the naughtiness and letting the good behavior slip through for a good long while. Remain constant so he has a chance to put 2 and 2 together.
