| Elka's First Title! Kind of goofy, but still a training thing. Elka is now Elka V, NTD (Novice Trick Dog). She had to know 15 "easy" commands, signed off on by a witness, and now we have a title, certificate, and a "Do More With Your Dog" wrist band, as it's through Kyra Sundance's Kyra Sundance - Sundance Dog Team - Trick Dog Showsweb site. On to Intermediate! Then maybe I'll start earning some titles, too (Along the lines of CTDI [certified trick dog instructor]).
I told Elka she has a title now, but as it didn't earn her further treats or walks, she wasn't so impressed. |

| Thanks!
I know it's not a serious title like so many of you have (and so many of them, too!), but it's fun and engaging for both of us.
I mentioned tricks that Elka knows and that I'm teaching to her on the phone with my grandfather once, and he said something along the lines of "How 'bout that. When we had dogs, we never taught them anything, we just yelled at them." |

| The way I look at it... A title is a title whether AKC/UDC/CKC/ Whatever else...
It means you are doing something with your dog and they excel at it!
Congrats on Elka's title and to many more... I hope you come back to say she can do all of the tricks in the book (I also have 101 dog tricks, but just been too busy to actually do those tricks)

Congrats on Elka's title and to many more... I hope you come back to say she can do all of the tricks in the book (I also have 101 dog tricks, but just been too busy to actually do those tricks) | All the tricks in the book would be pretty cool! Some of them we already have nascent stages of, or variations. For instance, Elka doesn't ring a bell to tell us she has to go out. Nay, nay! She comes over and (typically after sneezing a couple of times, and stretching and raptor-yawning [which I should also put on cue]) says "out", as clearly as her doggie vocal equipment will let her. She also doesn't currently "wave", but does "Testify" that she's full of the Holy Spirit.
I guess I should videorecord some of this, huh?
I already have some wacky equipment requirements that the fiance may or may not be confused by. Just the other day I kind of idly said "I wish I had a hula hoop" (as we passed a moving-in college student with 3 hula hoops in hand). "Jump through a hoop" is one of the tricks, you see, but he looked at me weird, so I had to make some excuse about hula hooping being a good workout, which it is. I cannot, in fact, hula hoop. |

| I think this sounds like a LOT of fun! Congrats on obtaining a title for doing what is a lot of FUN for you & Elka.
Sounds like you need a hula hoop. (I can't make one go, either. Granddaughter is of the correct size to use them as a stiff jump rope, though.)

I was thinking the other day, how easy it would be to make a leather jumprope, provided the leather was long enough. Handles on each end, instead of a handle and a snap.

Handles on each end, instead of a handle and a snap. | I Googled leather jump rope and have newly discovered that they are readily available and cost less than leather dog leashes.
I also have no clue how one knows what length is appropriate, though I have to guess it has to do with one's height.

Sorry for the threadjack. :X

| Oh, I don't mind! "Jumping Rope" is actually one of the tricks for a more advanced title, if I remember aright
(that and I was like "oh! people are on my thread!" I'm just so needy.) |
