You're welcome! I also have the one without the live ring in 2 different sizes, the only thing they've been good for is spare links. If you get the new one let me know if it's any good.

When I put Lou's collar on I put him in a down, stay.

I'm doing the same for my foster (she's buck wild too) lol.

Thank you all (and especially Robinb) for your input. I will order the Sprenger with the easy clip. It will make it so much easier for me as I already have bad wrists and an injured shoulder from past injury, hence why I need Penny to stop pulling. May I ask what is the difference between the correction given by a live ring? I've never used a prong collar before and don't want to be too aggressive in the corrections.

Penny seems to get excited as she knows when I/we pull the collar and leash out she is going for a drive or a walk. She is a jumper so I wait for her to sit before putting the martindale on. She is fearful and at times nips if she is over the top excited. A work in progress

I've never used one of the prongs with the easy on and off snap or buckle. My TD did mention one day that unless there is a good reason, which there is in your case, that he likes the regular prong collars better as the correction comes a little faster. But he also was saying this for dogs working in a precise level of competition obedience. For just regular walking I sort of let mine just self correct on the prong collars, and they seem to figure that out fast. If a dog is just being a pulling idiot when walking, just turn around fast and head off in the other direction. Remember to reward when they are doing things right!!!

Also when I get any collar out for my dogs they turn into bouncing idiots, both trying to get their heads in the same collar, as they know we are off to do something fun. I don't want to damper the enthusiam so I just live with it.

I would just like to add that the prong collar has to be one of the best pieces of training equipment ever invented! (Although my wife seems to think it is some sort of mid evil torture device).

My 5 month old already walked really good on a lead with a flat collar but liked to pull ahead just a bit. I bought one of the Sprengers (you just pinch one of the links together to remove. Order the small and a couple extra links).

After putting on the prong I have never had to correct him. Just the sensation of it on his neck is enough for him to behave perfectly.

It is also a good idea to use a back-up collar (I use the dominant dog collar from Leerburg) as a back-up. Prongs can come apart with a hard enough correction, not that i've needed to do that but just as a safety.
