SE passed her Canine Good Citizen test earlier this month. This instructor was much more complex than Emily's was. We went to Home Depot and had to find 30 items. Dogs had to accept strangers coming up, motorized vehicles, crutches, etc. Then we went to the Ft. Collins Library and did a partial Rally course in between strangers walking and on bikes. Third crusade was Old Town FT. Collins. Dealt with live bands, bicycles. skateboarders, vendors, people jogging and families on outings and walking passed seated people at cafes. She handled everything well. What a disposition. So now, she is Kansa's Happy Planet Index CGC.

That's not a regular CGC--are you sure it wasn't the new AKC added title Urban Canine Good Citizen? Rosemary thought the same thing...

I was holding dogs less than a month ago at a show for a friend who was taking several dogs through--it was the same basic CGC my dogs have been doing since 1997 when I took the first dog through one. It was held in one ring, the dog had to walk with you briefly, had to walk by another person with a dog, had to come when called, had to stand and let someone brush him (which has always dumbfounded my dogs who never get brushed but do get wiped down) and to stay with another person when I disappeared without pitching a fit. I've probably missed a couple of items but that was and still is a basic CGC.

Congratulation, no matter which one it was--but it sounds like you bypassed all of the less complex beginning CGC tests and went right to the top--so really big congratulations are definitely in order.

I am in the process of becoming a certified instructor for CGC as the newest part of my training. What you described is way more intense than what we were told the test would be like. Along with learning how to put other people's dogs through the test, I have been putting my Mabel through the test with less treats each time as a practice so that she will be ready to take it at the end of my training (I can't be the one that tests her obviously). Gotta say your test sound extremely impressive. Congrats on passing!

I didn't mean to imply that this was the actual test. This was the training we did for the test. The actual test was the normal CGC test. But it was way easier than all the training we did. Home Depot, The Library and Old Town were three different training days. But I was really impressed with how everything went down. Once you get through all this, the dog is really prepared for testing.
