Hyperactivity

I am a veterinary technician, and raised a very well behaved Rottweiler. I thought I knew what I was doing....but....My 1 1/2 year old female doberman is sure a challenge. She can run and run and run. That is the only way to truly get her to behave, totally tire her out. She is so hyper all of the time, that even when I tell her to sit, her legs are shaking she is so excited. Have other people had this issue?

Where in MN do you live? I'm in Minneapolis (richfield). Has your dobe been this hyper active the whole time you've had her? Mona is 7months old and a couple 1/2 hour walks a day is all she needs, she's pretty mellow (for a dobe...I think).

Zac had this problem until we realised he has a major gluten allergy and dealt with it. Apparently it's a pretty common symptom - could it be her food?

Having had both I can say dobes seem to have far more energy that rotties, Dillon is 8 now and can still out run Lottie, all my dobes have loved to run and run whereas Lottie is a plodder.

missy is not hyper as in she only need a short walk every day and is happy to play sleep or run after a ball the rest of the time.

but whn she sits she can not stay still, she does not stay still in a down or stay or anything.. she wiggles a fidgets all the time.. like she had a bee up her bum !!

i just thought she was excited as sit normally means training and treats or a fuss !!

as santa said it might be an idea to look into her food ??? may be go raw or something ??

good luck jeep us posted on any news !!

My 8 month old is jsut like that. The only time he really lies down is in his crate. Otherwise (even after a 1/2 hour walk and 1/2 hour chasing his ball) he is still fired up and will get into trouble if he's not busy. He is the most energentic dobe pup I've ever had.

Am curious to hear from others.

Good Luck!!!

I realized I should edit her age....she will be 2 in December. I can play continous frisbee, then take her for a 45 minute walk, come back and play frisbee again, she is an ok listener, she will wait at the door for me to allow her in, then she goes tearing into the house and runs laps around the couch. Even the Barkbusters lady was surprised. We feed her Cannidae now because it was supposed to have less carbs and more protein. She also will not stay still to cuddle. I always have to be on guard. She will jerk her head and get me in the face. I work with dogs and have never seen anything like this!!

We live in Shakopee. Yes, she has always been this way...I replied down below about all the things I can do and she will still tear around the house!! I can barely even cuddle with her.
