| I don't think that I am the right owner for this dog. I don't think that I can give her what she needs. I am miserable. Is there anybody that is interested in adding her to your home? |

But would you be willing to give it another go? Maybe try that mental training/stimulation that Burns mentioned?
You know, it may just be juvenile energy which will calm down as Ruger gets older.

You know, it may just be juvenile energy which will calm down as Ruger gets older. | I want to, I really do, but I do feel so hopeless. This is causing me stress and guilt every day that I am not doing a good enough job. Or that she is not happy. She can't even be left alone for a minute without doing something naughty, and she whines even when she is sitting or laying with us. It gives me terrible anxiety. I really don't know what to do. The hyperactivity is what really gets to me. I don't know how to control it, to be able to stimulate her or teach her. |

I'll give him a rawhide or something to chew on. They need to learn that when you are turned off, they are turned off.
If its any consolation, Red will not really snuggle either. He thinks if you are down on the floor with him, its because you want to play and get licked all over. I have to watch his head knocking me in the jaw so I don't bite my tongue in half!
Maybe try getting into an obedience class and practicing a lot of obedience and training at home. Dobes need a lot of mental stimulation as well as physical. |
I would say no, she is not getting enough exercise, but the only time it seems to be enough is when she runs at the dog park for an hour....I can't do that all the time. I have tried mentally stimulating her, teaching her how to shake or do other things and she is so ADD that it is really difficult. And the whining that I mentioned in my other reply. Last night she was laying down - per command of my b-friend, and the cat was sitting at the top of the stairs, so she kept whining and whining, even with her shock collar on. It gives me such anxiety. |

| What have you tried? How much exercise does she get every single day? Can you share her routine with us?
Edit-- I see where you responded to Burns's post.
That answers part of my question.

They key to an extra high energy level dog is training, training, training and exercise. Give her an outlet for her energy like agility or whatever sport floats both of your boats. Quote:

Am curious to hear from others.
Good Luck!!! | I don't know many 8 month old dobermans at all that would get tired out from just that. Quote:

If you got her from a good breeder, the breeder should be contacted first and given first right of refusal. If she came from a back yard breeder or puppymill then of course this doesn't apply.

I contacted the breeder yesterday. She said she had a few people interested in adults, but one of them has cats and that is not working for Ruger right now.
I am a veterinary technician, I love dogs and know alot about them, but I am feeling like such a failure right now. I also left a message for the Petsmart trainer we went to because she has always raised Dobes.
