One thing when training with treats is to make sure your puppy is hungry. If you feed before going to training, it won't matter what you have in your hand.

Other than some of the things already mentioned I have used natural balance food rolls diced into small cubes. It comes in several flavors. It isn't as messy as some of the other things.

I use mainly hot dogs and string cheese but I also save steak or prime rib from my dinner [when we go out] and cut it into tiny pieces and use that too. Mine also like Puparonie and Zukes. I try to mix the treats up to keep them interested.
