| So what now?? Hi all,
I think I'm missing out slightly on the commands I could teach Max. He knows the usual set but surely there's more.
This is what he knows;
Sit
Down
Off
Leave
Come (needs great improvement)
Wait
Stay
Heel (needs great improvement but consistency seems to be paying off)
Bedtime
No biting (needs to be surgically installed into his puppy brain as not effective enough yet)
Fetch (sometimes when he likes the treat I've got)
I think that's it?!?
What else am I missing out on. Oh! and how do you teach no jumping up on people to say hi????? This one is important!!
Appreciate any thoughts or assistance you may have.
Thanks all.

| I'd recommend you start him in a puppy kindergarten class to work on these commands with the distractions of other pups and people. If he really is only 4 months old, he knows a lot already. I'd just keep on improving responses and reliability....such as make him wait with a bowl of food out in front of him, or bouncing his favorite ball or toy while he is on a sit stay, etc.
I use "off" for jumping up on people. |

| You got the basics down keep working them. The one im gonna go crazy till they got it is to "wiggle the nubb" but right now we are at the same point you are. Something to concider is cgc canine good citizen. Burns and Red just got it. A lot of work but really cool...

| hi dusuwho
i used the victoria stillwell approach to jumping up with Bruce. Basically just ask people to turn their back on Max til he stops jumping up. so eventually he should learn that jumping up = being ignored and waiting patiently = attention. bruce learnt this quite quickly as he's such an attention seeker! he has now learnt the best way to get attention is to sit and look longingly into people's eyes, that normally does it! and if not, the secret weapon is placing a slobber covered toy on the person's lap! haha (ok so that's not a good behaviour trait to teach them...) |

| How about NO!! Which means "stop whatever you're doing, you little stinker, or things will become unpleasant!" LOL
(Actually, I tend to use "no" only for emergencies--my boy has only heard it a few times and he's so shocked by my loud nasty "no" that he freezes and waits for the next command.) |

I use "off" for jumping up on people. | He's 4 months on the 9th July. He may seem like he knows alot already but I have no idea at what age this stuff solidifies in his brain. Yep, do the 'off' thing so I'll keep with that and hope to see improvement.
