| Red passed his CGC!!! YAYAYAY!!! I'm so proud of my boy! He was sooo good and focused, and the evaluator was so impressed!
We got there early and sniffed around a bit. Two other ladies came in with their dogs - little shih tzu dogs. The only part of the test I was nervous about was the "Reaction to another dog", and when I saw these two little ones come through the door, I got even more nervous. Red thinks little dogs are to be play-squashed like his cat friends at home. He's much better behaved around bigger dogs.
We whiz right through the first parts of the test with flying colors. The petting, grooming, heeling, commands, etc. Then the part with the other dog comes. For the test, you have to walk toward each other, stop, put the dog in a sit, shake hands with the other person, talk a little, then continue on your way. So we walk toward each other with our dogs in heel position, stop, Red sits nicely, we shake hands, then out of nowhere, her little dog lunged and tried to attack Red! Red stood up out of his sit, but just looked at the little dog in polite interest as if to say, "What do you think you're doing? We're in the middle of a test here!" Then we continued on our way. The evaluator said that even if Red would've barked or something, he wouldn't have marked us off because the little dog attacked him first. haha score! Red 1, Little Dog 0 Then the supervised separation, which Red was fine for, and we were done!
The evaluator said you are allowed to miss one step of the test and have a retry at the end if needed, but Red passed everything the first time through The evaluator was so impressed with how well he did with me doing all his training myself. I'm so proud
Anyway, thanks for all the well wishes in my other thread!! I appreciate all your encouragement and help! I could not have done this if it wasn't for all you wonderful people at DT - and I thank you from the bottom of my heart!!
Red enjoying his reward |

| Never had any doubt Red would pass! Big Congrats!
One month till Reggie takes his CGC. We thought about doing the Delta Society therapy dog thing, but Delta Society does not allow dogs who have had any bite training (stupid)
Red might make a good therapy dog though! Or on to novice obedience...

By the way, what's the difference between Delta Society and TDI? That is stupid that Delta won't allow dogs with bitework - you'd think having a properly trained dog would be a plus. |

| Very good Red and Burns!!! I think the only difference between the CGC and the TDI is they make you use a flat collar (no choke collar) and there is a wheelchair or walker in the mix. But basically the same as the CGC. Red should have no problem with it. Again congrats!

For the distraction part of this test, he actually used a wheelchair for one distraction and of course Red did fine with it. I think he'd do ok on just his flat collar too, though I used a choke for his CGC today. That's good to know, thanks for the info! |
