Ok, so he has always jumped on the side of the furniture or windows to see and I have always corrected him. Jager has now discovered that he can jump into the air and hence onto me or anyone else! How do I train him not to jump on people or jump at people or things???

I have been saying, NO, and then sit but it isn't working very well.

Would appreciate help with this have spilt a lot of water bowls after being jumped at and cant even imagine when he is full grown...this is not an option!

You can do one of a few things depending upon the situation.When he jumps on you the command off should be given and then turn your back and ignore him until all 4 paws are on the floor. Then praise Good "off" iIwould then offer tasty food tidbits whenever he stays off or puts his 4 paws on th floor. The food has got to be his absolute favorite. If he is jumping when you've got his food or water bowl put him in a sit or down. No sit no food. No down no food. Make sure he's getting enough exercise during the day. Keep to idea that nothing in life is free and reward for the behavior you do want. Hope this helps. As the behavior decreases you can phase the food out later. Also the word "No" is totally overused with dogs try Uht-uhn, or WRRRong

I like the off as I have been using down and I think he gets confused to what I really want. I will try your method and I REALLY appreciate the help. Jager gets a lot of exercise at least hour and a half a day. We do three walks and a lot of play where I make his chase after his balls and such. It is mostly when he is excited, cant blame him, but I also don't want 100 pounds jumping at me or my little nieces, yes??

Max jumps on one of our sun loungers in the garden (among other things). This was the thousanth time I told him 'off' and would of had to resort to grabbing his collar and moving him off myself because he wouldn't obey the command. This last time I hosed him while saying off.

He understands off now.

Different things work for different dogs. I totally disagree wiht you dusuwho. Spritzing a high drive dog with the hose is only going to amp them up. It can also shut a dog down permanently and make them fearful. I can see using a hose to break up a dog fight, but not to get them off furniture. It's about being fair to the dog. I would try compressed air or another sound to get their attention to redirect them. But again different strokes for different folks. This is just my honest opinion.

I had LOTS of problems with Bo jumping when he was a young puppy, and alot of it had to do with other people fawning over him when he was just a pup.... So be careful of other people making him think that an unwanted behaviour is acceptable too.... it caused me some problems later on....

People like it when a puppy jumps up on them for attention, it's completely different when he's 100 lbs and does it.

I had to use the "off" and the back turning , I also used a half gallon milk jug with some change in it that worked for a while (until it turned into a new game for him)

his jumping is minimal now, but it took ALOT of work and patience to change the behaviour once it started.

Yes that drives me crazy..."oh it is ok that he jumped on me" NO ITS NOT! Stop petting him and telling him good boy!" Of course that is all in my head...normally I respond with "yeah, but he will get bigger. I need to correct him, thanks". Sometimes being nice is hard...he he he.

Try with two of them!!! Can get crazy. For the most part ignoring them works for me, but my wife will push them down and tell them " no, off, stop ,quit, ouch , stop, no, ouch, down, quit...... I cant get her to understand to just ignore them and walk away
