Your welcome everyone who thanked me for posting the video/explanation of finding the leg. As ellenm stated.... it's just another tool/method that may assist some handlers and dogs. I'm definitely one of those people that are open to learning and utilizing various methods, and have learned alot from everyone who posts on this board. Thank you to everyone who does!

Doberkim were you going for a BH with Rah? Either way props to you and Rah for getting out there and walking that line - pass or fail - at least you both got out there and gave it a go by competing. Your NEVER a loser - if you walk away with knowledge/experience that you did not have before you stepped onto that field. Darn rabbits and bee's!!!! It's really hard to train for every possibility. On my girl Coda's OB1 trial (SchH 1 obedience) she was really doing well until the send away. Gave her the command....she hauled butt straight down field and was nearing the fence (3ft away) when 3 strays came out of nowhere charging her. I gave her the down command, as the judge instructed, and she did down immediately for about 30 seconds.....but could not resist showing the 3 strays how much of a bitch she can really be Of course the 3 strays stuck around while she was in the long down afterwards to taunt her and charge her again - we lost some points there and I was a bundle of nerves, but I can't blame her for doing what I myself probably would have done if I was in her situation Dogs have a way of humbling us though - just when we think we have it all figured out

yup (well, technically it was the TT, the AKC WDS version of the BH, but its exactly the same thing) - it wasn't pretty but it was passable until he did everything but stay down for the down!

he got stung right before the sit in motion, and berlin got stung twice and me once later on during protection while were were watching. there were bees EVERYWHERE!

the rabbit wasn't a wild rabbit - it was john soares' daughters rabbit, about 4 lbs, orange, and a pain in the butt. and spent the rest of the trial secure in a dog kennel

I don't have any good classes near me, so I've been using the Choose to Heel method by myself....I'll have to get a video of us when we get better.

i used choose to heel modified for all of my dogs as well integrated with things - i integrate it with clickers, but its not what i use to finalize the exact position, its more of a way to reinforce that being near me is a great thing. its wonderful for when we're doing off leash hikes and the dogs come into heel position on their own

No! followed by correction and then you put him in the right position and then praise him a lot.
This is the traditional style of training. Unfortunately the dog does not really learn to work through problems because the work is done for them. We use purely positive teaching showing when the dog is first learning the exercise. Once they have learned it then in proofing and later securing phases then stress is applied while the dog is incorrect (not in such a manner that places the dog in the right position-compulsion). The stress is stopped once the dog starts working to get into the correct position. Then once THE DOG has done the work and got into the correct position, then they receive praise.
