| Aversion to bikes/motorcycles/scateboards I need some good solid advice....my new rescue dobie boy Tyson acts up and has even chased down people on bikes, motorcycles and skateboards. Needless to say - this is entirely inappropriate behavior and dangerous too!
Has anyone had a similar problem and if so - what did you do that was successful? I was recently told that a shock collar might be in order - but I'm wondering if there might be another way....
I have had Tyson now for about 2 full months. HELP!
Thank you. |

| There is a 'Dog Whisperer' episode that (I think) is now available on DVD about this very problem - a bulldog that would chase and attack skateboards and bikes.
Good luck! |

| We were chased on our bikes last summer by a dog that had gotten loose from it's owner. 4 lane, one way, street in down town Hamilton. One of the scariest things I ever experienced the dog was on the far right side walk and we were in the far left lane. He came running after the bikes and we pulled off/slowed down one by one till he was just chasing the one. Someone on a bicycle that was close jumped off it and grabbed the loose lead. Thank doG he wasn't hit by a car but he ran a good 2 km from his owner.
Do you take him to training? The best route is to introduce him to the wheeled items in a controlled situation. That is what I did with Gunner. The first few times in the building someone rode the bike while I sharply corrected him until I was able to tie the lead to the bike while he jogged beside it. Again, it is best to get an experienced dog handler to help you with this as it takes repetition and a great deal of dog knowledge so no one gets hurt.

| Long line prong collar and allow the dog to correct itself. The dog must have an opportunity to fail and receive the correction. The dog chases motor bike to the end of the line gets strong sharp correction then understands the behavior is unacceptable. Dog gets praise for ignoring motor bike

Thank you. | >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> >>>>>>> My daughter has this problem with her rescue PRT. Apparently something must have happened in his past that causes him to be reactive to bikes, skateboards, skates and motor bikes. He has never really gotten over it, but he has gotten better. She acknowledges the 'wheels' and asks him to sit, focus on her and when he listens, she praises him for leaving it and gives him lots of treats.

| My girl does this....I attribute it more to prey drive then a bad experience. The way I've dealt with it is to make her heel whenever I see a bike or something that triggers her coming. It was lots of fun getting ready for her BH/TT!!
