| | Alpha | Bumpy is the alpha male over Callie. Bo (my older dog) is the alpha male over both of them. Yes, Callie disturbed the sleeping dog which was out of line - this I know. It was when I called him into the house and told him no for his barking like a maniac where his growling was out of line and snapping most certainly was. I reprimand my female with a firm no and a quick "hand bite" on the snout and she submits. I do not feel that Bumpy should ever growl at me or question that I am the alpha. Is he at the age where he does question me?
He is not neutered because he is Vwd clinically affected, not just affected. He has been in two training classes, so this is not lack of work on my part, just something that started two days ago, which is two times to many as far as I am concerned.
I just don't want this to be something he feels he can do and that I don't nip it in the bud in the correct way. He is 97lbs and obviously cannot be allowed to be the alpha over me.

| berkdogg, yes the poster was asking about an aggression and dominance issue, but a male being intact is more likely to challenge you than a neutered one, so neutering is also a consideration with this problem.
DobeSpell, you must be a male yourself. Please don't make your fears of neutering an issue with your dogs health and welfare. |

| lanabana, Did your Vet recommend that he not be neutered. There are medications and "blood' available for bleeders. Yes it is more expensive but might be worth the costs, if he is proving to be too much of a handful for you unneutered. |

| | Alpha | He probably won't be neutered unless I have no other choice. The long time members on this board know it is a bleeding issue and a costly one at that. With my other dogs cancer I had to handle that first (to the tune of 6k) before I can consider the 4k it will take for Bumpy's plasma transfusion and neuter. Trying to work around it and deal with this dominance issue and see if I can nip that first. |

My dog snapped me three times so far, intentionally.
First time I was hugging him, got all over him. He tried to escape but I didn't let him. Then he just turned head and grab my face. I had two cuts, one just under my left eye and another one near right ear (my whole face was in his jaws). I had to go to emergency because bleeding wouldn’t stop (they had to glue the cut under my eye).
Then he snapped my hand because I tried to remove his head from the bed (my mistake, should’ve done that differently).
Third time he was sleeping and I went close to his nose to kiss him. He woke up and bit me (my mistake again).
First two times I gave him small corrections and firm No but third time I was very rough on him. I got so mad that I couldn’t control myself. He got strong corrections and I hit him and put in down position for half an hour. I felt sorry for him once I calmed down.
Since then I didn’t have any accidents.
We asked trainer about King and I was told that he’s ok, I’m the one who’s doing mistakes. | I have to disagree totally here. He is the DOG and you are the OWNER. I do not believe that those excuses make it okay for him to bite you or snap at you.
Now, forgive me, I do not know King's history, be he a rescue or what issues he has that you may have posted elsewhere, in which case I can see the reasons NOT to put your face by his or constrict him like you did, not knowing what his response may be.
But other then that, I do not see it to be a reasonable excuse for him to snap at you b/c you moved his head off a pillow! Not acceptable! ( A llittle "after the fact" but I wouldn't personally recommend kissing a sleeping dog on the nose either regardless of the dog, but I'm sure you've already thought about that now!)
I disagree with the trainer totally that these are considered to be reasonable responses from King.

| lanabana, as far as obedience training, what do you do with him? I'd recommend at a minimum doing extensive training and OB commands to try to lower him a notch or two on the totem pole. In addition, it doesn't hurt to have a thyroid panel run on him if you haven't already. Funky thyroid levels can affect temperment out of the blue as well. |

You say you hugged him, and he bit you, then you pushed his head off the bed and he bit you? Are you serious, and you put up with that?
I'm also not a violent person but if my dog ever bit me for a stupid reason like that, he would be very sorry he did when I got done with him.
I'm no expert, but it sounds like your dog thinks he's king pin of your house, Dobespell, do you practice NILIF?
Also, sorry to the original poster, just had to comment on Dobespell's response. |

| | Alpha | I just need to stop this before it goes any farther. Three dogs is tough to say the least, but when one starts disrespecting like this I get a little concerned. Not like he is a chihuahua that I can pick up to reprimand.....he was reacting both times to being wound up, still no excuse. |
