Training in Houston

Even though Stella is pretty well trained, i would like to supplement her with extra training (so she stops taking my apples off the plate and eating them) and in general to learn what i can do to make her have a better life. she never tears up anything in the house (shoes, clothes, etc), is completely house broken, knows her boundaries (my couch, her couch) and has never shown any signs of aggression toward me or any of my friends. do you guys think it would be a good idea to continue to train with her? if so, is there any one in Houston area i could talk to to know more about furthering her training?

-thanks!

I think that more training would be great! Not that she needs it, but more for mental stimulation. Besides it will be fun for the both of you! You never know what you might learn. You will also learn things that may not pertain to your girl (who sounds wonderful! ) but might help with any other dogs you get.

I'm not from the Houston area, so I can't help you out with someone to go to. I would try to ask around doggie places. I found out about a wonderful place here in Tulsa by taking Jax to a local horse show. You never know what you'll learn somewhere.

I'm in Houston, and I've been going through the adoption process with the local Doberman Rescue group. One of their members suggested training at My Dog & Me, which is one block east of N. Shepherd at 23rd. You can check out their website at Houston TX Dog Obedience Training Texas Professional Dog Trainers
Also, you may be able to find some information or contacts on the Doberman Pinscher Club of Houston website: Doberman Pinscher Club of Houston

what a coincidence, thats exactly the place we were considering. she is really nice every time we speak on the phone. Stella will definitely be visiting with her soon.
are you going through HADR? some of the people there are incredibly helpful and have a genuine interest in re-homing dogs. we actually qualified for a dog at first, but when they brought the first available dog to my house (which i didnt adopt because she did not play well with others, including my cat and my brother's dog) her foster family saw that my brother lives next door to me and had a young pitbull (which is now a full grown slobber monster and Stella's best friend) and we were promptly disqualified from adopting a doberman from HADR. Stella came from Brazos valley doberman rescue.

Yes, I've been working with HADR. I'm actually picking up a dog that I met over the weekend next Sunday for an in-home trial. No current pets, so that's not an issue, and the dog next door is a Dachshund!
