| Hi everyone.
I'm having exactly the same problem with my 15 month old Dobe. On the good side we have a large field at the bottom of the road where I can run him off the lead (And boy can he run) virtually every day. Thing is I usually use quiet periods such as 6:30 in the morning to restrict the chances of coming accross other dogs cos if we do - Whooosh he's gone. Fortunately he is a very friendly dog and only wants to play - last night a jack russell bit his ear quite hard and my Lexx didn't even try to retaliate.
When he was younger he recalled really well and we even bought a whistle so he could wonder further and recall when we wanted him back. Unfortunatel Dobes are too bloody intelligent - he learnt that two peeps on the whistle meant "Come" within 10 minutes (Really that's no exageration), however within a week he realised that we mostly recalled him when there were joggers or other dogs around - 2 and 2 together time! > two peeps on the whistle > fun stuff about (joggers, dogs etc.) and instead of Coming simply stopped what he was doing and surveyed the horizon for the afore mentioned creatures before legging it off to them.
Since then his recall has been almost non existent. Were not giving up though. |
