robin,
I only took moonshine home when he turned 6 months. he spent a month in quarantine where the only "interaction" with kids was when the kids ran down the corridor at full speed with loud high-pitched voices, clearly riling moonshine up when he is in his quarantine room.
he is a little better as of now. he doesn't growl when he sees kids standing still or walking slowly, but if there are kids running about and screaming or making high-pitch noises, he would growl.
berkdogg, just like you, I don't have any kids that I could "use" to meet my dobe. yes, who would loan their kids to me for a day? lol. however, I won't give up on this.. moonshine doesn't sound to be as "bad" as your dog in terms of kids. he is simply unfamiliar with them and haven't had the chance to meet them. he used to be afraid of opening umbrellas, large roaring trucks, and a particular toy i bought for him which would move on its own. he would bark and growl at these, but has now totally accepted them. while I know children are a different issue altogether, I will not push on this but I won't give it up either. I will take all the time in the world to slowly get him used to kids, and if he accepts them, all the better. I do want kids.. and I think may have a kid in five years' time. we shall see. I continue to praise/treat him whenever we see kids.
