| | Big Dog | i did the impossible! thanks all at DT! hey guys, if you dont know, my mom has 2 lhasa apsos, the girl is 8 and food agressive, aggressive in general, so i just left her alone, but the boy is 1, last week i made a post saying lhasas are untrainable, it was impossible, but with advice and guidance, and some links of course, i found out some new methods for teaching this stubborn boy jack, and this weekend, i taught him sit, and down!, i was shocked, such an independent, disobedient dog was takeing orders from me, i followed the "nothing in life is free" rule, which is good for any dog, not just dobys! lol!, he seems to act different towards me too, when im sitting down he'l jump over to my chair, and put his ears back and sit down infront of me, very submissive but freindly like, before he was just crazy!, theres just one problem.. i dont live with my mom yet, and i know her and her boyfreind wont enforce the "nothing in life is free" rule, so as of this weekend so far hes only been listening to me.. oh well its a start, once i move in il be getting my doby pup shortly after, cant wait |

| | Big Dog | oh and the actual methods i used were,
- Stay posotive at all times, dont discourage.
- Keep training sessions short as possible, 5-10mins max.
-little to no physical training, like for sit, id put the treat above his head slowly so he was forced to sit, sometimes a light tap on his butt.
- id say about 85% of the training was done with no physical touch, just methods i learned from you guys, and some links on the web.
and thats it really, i think the reason he didnt listen before was he didnt respond well to physical touch while training, and i wasnt staying posotive the hole time last time either, i kept it as fun as possible for him and it worked awesome, i plan to train him 2 new tricks every weekend i come now |

| Are you getting your dobe and living with the two lhasas? Just as a warning, male dobes don't tend to get along with other male dogs too well. This doesn't mean that it NEVER works, but considering the size difference, I think you'd be taking a huge risk.

| Congratz!!! Yes absolutely NILIF is for every dog and is a wonderful tool. You could tell he was respecting you now. This is good practice when you get your dobie, building this kind of relationship with dogs.

| thats great. you will probably see better progress in other things when he knows that you mean what you ask. Just a small point, once he knows sit and thinks ahead of you he will likely start doing it on his own. Like my dog when he wants a treat he will run up and sit, the sit also gets my attention in his mind and that he is being good and waiting. In this case I give a different command, because he still needs to work for it, not decide he is going to get what he wantts.

| Way to go :-) My breif experience with Lhasa's taught me that they can be stubborn little fluff balls but once you get them going, they can be a whole lot of fun to work with.
As far as 2 males living together - It's not impossible - there are several on this forum alone that have multiple males with little if no trouble. But, you need to keep in mind that there is a pretty strong potential for problem. Read the story on this page: Doberman Pinschers of Kinetic and Weimaraners of Unity - Quality Breeders in Florida . I realize this story is about 2 Dobes but it can and does happen between Dobes and other breeds as well.
If you do decide on a male, you have to make sure you have a back up plan to either move out or rehome one of the dogs if you can't keep them seperate at all times.
