3 month mark - What should Logan know?

I'm going to be at home with my baby for the next few months, and really want to make the most of our 'together' time.

He's now 3 months old, and he knows 'sit' - most of the time

What else should I be working on?
Of course, I have a flood of training and puppy books, etc --- but I'm assuming sit, stay, down are the 3 commands I should be concentrating on?

I don't want to overwhelm him, nor myself.
But he seems to be eager to learn.

Any and all feedback much appreciated

I think you can work on whatever commands you'd like him to know. I taught sit and down really early, stay came later because i WANTED lexx following me all the time. We worked on walking nicely on a leash all the time, thats a really important one to get young. Also LEAVE it and DROP it are great ones.

I love doing PT - and one of the first things and the most important [people seem to over look this one all the time] is COME! Sit in the floor - call come. Reward either with food or by petting/loving and use "What a good boy/girl when praising. They seem to really understand this phrase.
Next you HIDE and call come! Make him have to find you... make this a really fun game. Last USE all sorts of mean sounding voices - mad - angry - he will act like what the heck?! But when he does finally come reward heavily. You will end up with a Dobe that comes - no matter what voice you use - all the time. I would then teach the rest of the commands, but come has always been the first one I used. AND I always used bait on a puppy along with lots of hugs and kisses... they are just like a sponge at this age - they want to learn - and they learn quicker at this age than at the older ages in my humble opinion.

You have the best oportunity right now. I've never had the honor of having a dobe puppy that young due to rescuing older ones without homes.

IMO it is so important that they learn soooo many things from the git go. Simple things like making him sit and wait before you leave or enter the house for walks. There's nothing worse than a 90lb male dobe knocking people off their feet when they're just trying to get in the house.

Do you continually take food away from him while eating or mess with him while he's eating? That's another huge thing in my book. They have to respect where their food comes from and that it's OK for a child or anyone to take their food from them without being mauled.

You've said that you have training books, so I was currious if you have the book called "Mother Knows Best"? My favorite training book!
Thank You...... for caring enough to train. It's so refreshing to see people who want a doberman who's controlled and friendly. You're just one more person who will speak volumes for the best breed!
