Storm's first class

We had our first obedience class this evening and things went extremely well. To be totally honest I expected her to get there with all those other dogs and go into freak out mode and not listen what-so-ever. It took a minute for her curiosity to settle down but she listened and did everything right the entire evening. I couldn't help but laugh because every time the trainer pulled out a treat to teach her and the others to sit she would already do it. She doesn't get anything around here until she sits down and she knows the sound of the treat bag rattling.

I know this probably isn't much to some of you since some of your dogs are so well trained they would probably mow the lawn for you but this was kinda cool for us lol. We were really proud of her tonight.

She got a reward for doing so well. We took her and let her pick out a new toy. She will actually pick up what she wants and take it to the checkout on the way out of the store.

Congrats on a good first lessson !! its great when they do well !!! and the toy is gonna be well loved by the look if that gorgeous face in the pic !!!

That's great! Congrats to you and Storm for having a good, productive first class. Sounds like you already do a great job with her at home with manners and it showed in class. It's wonderful she can show the other dogs the proper way to sit!

Big congrats to Storm (and you) for a job well done at her first class! That IS a big deal. Good training starts out with a good beginning! LOL picturing Storm trotting up to the checkout with her stuffie - love the photo!

Thanks. Her manners are getting a lot better with things like people coming over and listening to "no" and doing what she's told when she's told but there are a few things we still need to work on. Like your video with Red off his leash and all the joggers coming by. I'd bet Storm would have jogged off with them lol. Like I said, MUCH work to do still but we are extremely pleased with how she is doing now.

That toy she picked out is toast now so maybe if she does well again next week we can get another

Don't worry, when Red was Storm's age, there's NO WAY he would've behaved that well with the joggers either. It all comes with time and LOTS of training. You are definitely on the right track. Keep the training frequent and fun, and the classes are great for listening with distractions. I find focus and distraction training to be sooo helpful - I want a dog who will follow commands and focus on me, no matter what is happening around us. Everyone has their own training goals - that is one of mine.

Keep up the great work! It's definitely worth all the time and effort you put into it. Storm is already a great representation of the breed, and she will only get better!

That's good cause after seeing some of these amazing dogs on here I was beginning to think it was just mine lol.

Silly as it may sound, one of my major goals with her is to be able to have her outside and trained well enough to not have her leashed. I spend much time in my garage with my bike and other projects and I would LOVE to be able to have her out with me while I was working. I don't think she would bolt but it's definitely not a chance I want to take until she trained well enough. She has gotten out a few times and never went anywhere but it still worries me.

It has been FAR more work than I ever expected but it was so worth it. We absolutely adore her.
