| Definitely research treatments, there must be forums out there with loads of good advice from those in the know. Trust your instincts and know your body, ask, ask and ask again. Do nothing that you don't want done,it's your body, your life, your choice, your decision! Knowledge is power.
All the best, thinking of you Alys. |

Have someone else look them over for you, and make any further suggestions.
Take with you, as well as a pen, and write down the answers.
I hate that feeling of "Oh, I should have asked..."
Good luck tomorrow, hope you like your surgeon.

She had a tumor in her breast that had to be removed...but, it has spread before it got discovered. However, she's doing well, going through her treatments, and pushing strong - and beating this thing!!!Little by little, but she is!!!Please stay strong, you can do it!!!A strong support system is very important, and as you know, all of your DT family on here will support you every step of the way. Best wishes!!! |

| | Alpha | Well I am going to have to have surgery and chemo. It's not the news we were hoping for but it's not horrible either. I opted to have surgery first. The surgeon is gonna do a mastectomy because she didn't feel like she could get clear margins with a lumpectomy due to the small size of my breast. Yes they're small! But I can get implants she said. I didn't want to endure chemo first. She said a lot of patients have the surgery first due to their immune systems being down during chemo. I didn't want to increase my risk of getting an infection from the hospital so we're going with the surgery first. I don't feel like typing out all the details right now but this is the jest of what's happening. I did ask the surgeon if similar cases were treated successfully and she said yes. So that was encouraging. We haven't scheduled the surgery yet because I have a couple of decisions to make. She said we had some time to think things through. I do have a breast MRI tomorrow. The mammogram didn't show anything in my other breast but they have to be certain. They will also take lymph nodes out to test during surgery. Please continue to pray for strength, comfort and rest for us. Thanks! |

I do have the option of getting implants. But my sweet hubby said he supported me no matter what I decide. Thanks again everyone. We're trying to stay strong and take one step at a time. |

| | Alpha | I go in tomorrow afternoon for my breast MRI. That is the next step and we're taking it one step at a time. That's all we can do. We actually slept decent last night. My poor hubby was exhausted. I am going to do my usual house work stuff and laundry today and of course love on the dobies. I'm pretty tired and stressed still so I'll let the dogs run around upstairs to burn some energy. They love that anyway. Then maybe we'll get a nap this afternoon. We're trying to carry on as normal as possible. We can't stop our routine. That's for sure. Thanks again DT for all the support! |

| Was thinking of you a day or two ago with regards to this. Hope all goes well tomorrow. Keep us updated if you're comfortable doing that.
A good friend went through this last summer (2011) and is back to normal activities now but is kind of amazed that the chemo/radiation really sapped her strength for about a full year. We ride together and her leg strength has diminished. Also she has to wear a sleeve for lymphangitis on her right arm due to surgery after effects. But in the grand scheme of things, she feels wonderful, is back to all activities, and life is good. |

Yeah I know chemo is going to suck and I'll have to take it for awhile. They're thinking 6-9 months, but we're handling one day at a time right now. I want to get through surgery first and worry about everything else later. I can't think too far in advance right now because it only overwhelms me. I don't need any added stress. That's for sure. I hate how stress affects me! I'm already small and I've lost a few pounds because stress makes my stomach tighten up where I can't eat very much. I'm sure I'll need an appetite stimulant if they have anything like that. Then there's the bad stress headaches. Ugh. I'm amazed at how many people this happens to. We have had so many people tell us they've been through it or they've had somebody close to them that had it. If I had know how common breast cancer really is I would've got a mastectomy a long time ago! |

I would at least look at some nutritional books, or if you do join a support group they could give suggestions, of possibly bulking up some for your surgery and especially for your chemo. | | Alpha | I have an appointment Friday morning with a plastic surgeon and he will consult with my other surgeon and they will set up surgery together for me. I dread it, but I'm ready to get the thing out of my body! I'm trying to stay positive thinking the sooner we get started on everything the sooner I will get better. I will have bad days for sure but I'm trying to not think about all that at the moment. |
