| Alaska and Picture Update (lots) Well, I've been up here for a while now and I definitely miss the animals back home. Only a few more months until I get to go back and be with them again. Not much happens up here, it's a pretty small island and it's usually pretty cloudy. There have been a few good days (usually good in the morning but by the afternoon all the clouds come it. It's usually somewhere between 30-40 degrees. The sun comes up at about 10:30 AM and goes down at about 6 PM.
Christmas wasn't very eventful, I did get a new lens 55-200 so I'm pretty happy about that. I also received a tripod, a UV filter, and a cleaning kit.
There was a fireworks show for NYE, which was pretty good considering how small and isolated this place is. We stood by with the Volunteer Fire Department so we had a front row view. I'm still learning how to use the DSLR to take fireworks photos so the better ones are with the Point and Shoot (it has a fireworks setting, so much easier until I learn how to take them with the DSLR).
There are a ton of Bald Eagles here, I mean like one on every light post. They can be pretty aggressive so I keep my distance. I've never actually seen a wild bald eagle before so they are pretty interesting.
There are no whales here at this time I was really hoping there would be some so I'm a little disappointed about that. BUT, I found out there are wild horses here, so that made this island a lot more exciting. Plus, these are pretty tame wild horses, they will come right up to you, especially for carrots. Continued....

| Every picture shows wildeness. I was at the Anchorage airport once for emergency landing due to an ill passenger so I had a chance to see views from the plane. It was cool.
We had to wait in the plane for 4 hours to take off. When the emergency crew came in, the negative atomosphere was all gone! One of them looked very much like Brad Pitt(lol)! Some asked to take a picture with him I remembered that Alaska has many good looking guys Saddly? it's none of my business though, I was with my husband anyway.

| I'm glad I uploaded these pictures earlier, the internet has slowed down dramatically, not that it was that fast earlier. We are supposed to get winds of about 60 MPH and the seas are supposed to be between 16-24 feet depending on what side of the island you are on. When I get back to normal speed internet I'll have a lot more photos, I'm picking the best ones to upload for now since it takes forever.
The deadliest catch boats weren't here for long, they all left the other day to go out for a while. Hopefully I can get some pictures of them when they come back.
Still trying to get some pictures of planes coming in to land and some pictures of the Coast Guard helicopters and Cutters coming in. I imagine with the rig stranded near Kodiak we won't be seeing any here for a while, they have a lot of the Coast Guard in the area responding to that.
Everything here is pretty scenic and full of wildlife. The views can't be beat, especially when you can actually get out and not be blown over by wind. I'm definitely glad I came.

There aren't too many good looking guys here. Not that I've really been looking, I'm up here with my other half and I'm pretty happy with him

| My girlfriend has been in Alaska for 2 years now.
She is a biologist and is working for the fish industry. Meg was in Juno and a few other places. She had a very interesting job shortly out of University.
Long way from the Kawartha Lakes, Ontario.
She brought home so many unbelievable nature pictures.
Really breathtaking. |

I don't think it gets much colder here. Nothing like the interior of Alaska. I was watching the news one night and they were going over weather for the state and they said parts of the interior were 51 below. That's just crazy to me. We get to go back to Florida so that will be nice Sent from my iPhone using Petguide.com Free App

| I've been up here since November, it feels like I just got here though, time has flown by.
It's definitely been an adventure, it's very isolated and my phone had to be disconnected because it doesn't work here. The internet is quite a bit slower and sometimes it doesn't work at all, and the TV goes out when the weather gets too bad. But other than that, I guess it isn't too bad, just not what I'm used to.
The plane ride here was quite an adventure. It's a small plane that is useful for cargo, and sometimes they have to stop at islands on the way to get fuel or they have to turn around and go back to Anchorage because of low visibility. Thankfully, my flight didn't have to do either of those, but it was a 3 1/2 hour flight.

| Alaska is beautiful and I'd love to see more of it. We did a 1 week Alaskan cruise 2 summers ago and we all loved it. I remember seeing some of the deadliest catch boats then... trying to remember where. I'm not sure I'd want to spend a winter there though.
One of my nephews is career coast guard - he was stationed on Kodiak a few years back - flies crew in the helicopters - he is in Cape Cod right now.

I think the helicopter crew that flies in here every once in a while is out of Kodiak. The helicopters on the boats also fly in before the cutters pull into the dock. I haven't seen them yet. They are always here and gone before I realize they ever pulled in. Sent from my iPhone using Petguide.com Free App

| Oh wow! The picture of the horses with the water and snowy hilltop, just breathtakingly beautiful! I've never seen anything like that! I LOVE horses! The only problem I would have with "tame" wild horses would be that I would try to make them all my pets haha! I road competitively hunter/jumper for 11+ years. In addition to carrots, horses LOVE spearmint candies (just not too many!). The bald eagles are just amazing! So beautiful! Thank you for sharing the great pics! You did an awesome job! More! More!!
