| Wow. That's alarming and sad at the same time. Does anyone know why they're suddenly being stolen and wanted for?

| Dog Stolen By ‘Grinch’ On Christmas Eve Reunited With 7-Year-Old Owner On Christmas Day
I saw this story on the News.
The little dog was tied out of a store, and a tall Grinch, stole the Cavalier red puppy.
The family reached out to the media. The Grinch was videotaped stealing the little red dog.
The Grinch posted signs "FOR SALE.'
A good Samaritan woman answered the "for sale" sign and reunited the little dog with the little girl.

| Either fodder for the dog fighting ring or sell to pet shops, on the street, Walmart parking lot, wherever they can dump the dog for a few bucks. |

| I saw a report on tv the other day of a security video of a break in at a pet store. The SOBs smashed a window, ran in with a backpack looking thing and grabbed 3 or 4 puppies out of their little kennel. The tape also had them casing the place earlier. |

| Yeah, I heard about both of those stories as well. Shameless, disgusting behavior.
My guess is same as yours - dog-fighting, bait, or dumped for money.

| Dog theft here is practically an epidemic.
Everyday you see new posters on the walls and lamp posts saying another dog has disappeared, but you know when you read on it was actually stolen.
Dogs have also been taken from Shelters here too. Especially the pittie types.
I fear it is organised crime (here in Spain) behind it. I don't want to think why. It would break my heart.
May all those involved die an agonised death and roast in hell. |

| It's getting a lot more common here too; gypsies stealing people's dogs from their gardens, outside shops, cars and even houses have been broken into. A few people have even been beaten up and had their dogs stolen while out walking, and dogs taken from children walking the dog alone. I never leave mine outside on their own, never in the car on their own or even at shows on their own.
A few weeks ago a chi got out of a garden in a housing estate near me and was picked up a few minutes later by a local woman who put some posters up. A few hours later two girls called and said their dogs were theirs, so the woman assumed they were and gave the dog over. Later, the real owner saw posters and called only to find the dog was already gone The woman put her own posters up and got a call from someone who asked how much the reward money was and when the woman said she had £200 the guy said 'Thats not enough' and hung up. Really, really awful. Another chi went missing from a championship show and was sold in the pub round the corner! Luckily the person who bought the dog saw a poster and returned him...
I am super paranoid about mine going missing; I live in a nice area but still have cameras covering the outside and my kitchen where the dogs stay. Their tags all say 'Microchipped. Require daily medication' I would put neutered, but it's quite clear Rupert is not!
When out walking before I've had a few people too interested in Rupert, asking if he's for sale or if I would breed them to thier bitch or if I have puppies. Seeing as I don't believe reputable breeders will source a stud dog from the local park ( ) I always tell people he was given up because his last owners couldnt handle him and his vet bills cost me thousands of pounds or he'll die quickly. I make up a new illness he has all the time! Sounds really paranoid, but I'm a small girl and there's no way I could fend of someone trying to take Rupert, though I'd hope he wouldn't go with anyone else. I wish pepper spray was legal here!!! |

| Also, I found two husky puppies walking around the streets together so I took them in and informed the appropriate section of the council I had them (no collars, no microchipped but i knew they would have escaped not been dumped as the sell for a lot of money) and I had a couple of calls about them. I asked for proof of ownership, so the correct owners brought me a bunch of pictures they had of them before I would hand them over (after a lecture about collars and microchips of course!£ ) |

| A Doberman was stolen in New Jersey before Christmas. She was dumped twenty miles from her home and fortunately ended up in a great rescue. Luckily she was identified by a tattoo the breeder puts on all of their puppies and reunited with her family. There was a warning on that story to watch your dogs/puppies because theft is on the rise. Don't let them out alone unattended and keep them on leash if they do not have a reliable recall.

How can Amelia feel that are pets are sacred when she is not born with the right to protect herself. She feels safer to tell the world what a rotten dog she has, probably the thing she loves the most! we are all being ask to submit to the criminals be they on the street or the city councill. Your dog is black and without a muzzle pay the fine or the black dog is getting locked up, cops shoot dogs that are no danger to anyone because they can. | Pepper spray is legal here, though the police do not believe it is and so confiscate it if they know you have it. (they aren't trained to a thousandth British or US cops are in the law).
However I still carry one despite being pretty big and incredibly strong.
Amelia, you might want to look at a personal attack alarm or force ten whistle they really do have a shock and awe effect against would be attackers. You might also like to carry a tube of hairspray. It bloody stings like crap if you get it in your eyes as we ladies can attest. It is also perfectly legal to carry in your bag, if questioned as to why you carry it, 'you hate flyaway hair'. |

| This is why Skoll's tag says that he's microchipped and special needs. He is, technically speaking, a special case but he doesn't require any medications or the like but I'm not about to make that distinction when dogs are being stolen left and right here to be thrown into the fighting ring.
A friend of mine has two service dogs and she's got multiple things on them saying so. That way hopefully if they're found by someone with even a small heart they're more likely to be returned.

| My brother had a beautiful German shepherd F (spayed) that he lost while jogging decades ago. His dog was off leash.
And, he was friends with all the police officers who were looking for his dog. He posted signs on telephone poles, in stores, etc..
It was ONLY the I.D. tag on his dog's collar that stated, "I am microchipped and reported to my owner."
The guy, who had the dog, took her into a Clinic and said he "just found her." (weeks later).
Well, the clinic had videotape and la, la, la.... the police apprehended the man who was upper middle class and was asked about my brother's dog and the details. -?-
The man admitted to the Police, "if that beautiful German shepherd was NOT microchipped, he would have kept her with his family." |

| My Rattie wasn't stolen, but he was lost for 6 hours after he slipped his collar out here in Anaheim several years ago. He wasn't chipped at the time, but was tattooed with my SSN. He's since been chipped. Ilka is chipped and tattooed, and Leo will be tattooed when she's spayed. I got her chipped before we left on vacation.
I was walking Ilka and Leo a few weeks ago, and heard someone holler at me, and my knees went weak. They yelled "Hey! That looks like my dog!" Turns out they just thought Leo was an Autralian Shepherd, and not actually their dog. Whew. But it still scared the cr@p out of me, so I figured the sooner she was chipped, the better.

She said she left him at home on his own and went out for a while (she doesn't normally leave him) but she told me later in the day she was on a bus when she saw a girl walking ROBBIE! So she jumps up and runs to the front of the bus, shouting 'Stop the bus, stop the bus, that woman has my dog!!' and jumped off the bus running towards her soutng 'Why have oh got my dog!?! Give him back'...only to find upon picking him up, it's not Robbie. She said she was mortified and the poor girl was just standing there with a look of WTF? On her face! My friend apologised profusely and showed her a picture of her dog on her phone and the girl found the funny side of it We've agreed we have to try and keep the crazy inside sometimes! |

I won't even let a dog in my care out in a fenced yard on private property without supervision. And I keep them on leash 24/7 in unsecured areas no matter how well I think their recall and off-leash habits may be. |

| Yesterday as my trainer friend and I were walking our dogs (Toby, 2 Boxers and Russell my Terrier) a guy walked up and asked us about our dogs. He correctly identified them all and asked how old they were. We kind of pretended not to quite understand him until he asked did they bite. We said 'yes'.
Off he walked.
Then today he came up to us and despite Toby being leashed and muzzled which would put anybody off he went to stroke him. He didnt ask permission or anything, he just reached out and went to touch him and damn near lost his hand because of. If Toby wasnt wearing his muzzle I swear it would have ended in tears.
He then says to us, he likes that type of dog and would I consider selling him.
I told him 'NO!' and that if he tried to touch him again I would give him a face full of mace.
Now normally I am not like this, but something about this man just weirded me out.
I mean who approaches a dog that you have been told bites, tries to touch it then asks to buy him.
Luckily I do not live anywhere near where we were walking, in fact I live a good 20 kilometres away. Still I am going to be very careful about my boys, both of them.
There are some right pieces of work in this world. GRRRRR! |

| There is a lesson or 2 too be learnt!
i NEVER EVER EVER leave my dog ANYWHERE outside and alone! Especially outside the shops, you only need a naive child or parent and you could have the law to deal with, you cant ever know what your dog will do or who will approach it if you are not around, certainly with a high value dog like a Dobermann.
Also chipping is a must, one of my mates has his dog chipped "somewhere else", any thief would know that the chip is in the scruff somewhere, i have heard of people cutting the chip out so a 2nd chip hidden is always an option. |
