Doberman lovers in Oregon

Would anyone like to have a doberman added to there family? I have a great female. She is the sweetest dog I've ever had but our lifestyle isn't fair to the dog. She has energy and needs playmates. Message me if interested

assuming this is a breeder-acquired or rescue-acquired dog, have you contacted them first to let them know you're not keeping her? frequently they would prefer to take the animals back.

...and they wanted ANOTHER doberman?

pro tip: dobes are high energy dogs. they all are going to be high energy. dumping an adult for a puppy because it's OMG SO KYOOT is pretty awful, and is one of the biggest reasons so many dogs are in shelters.

Well I just purchased a house with absolutely zero yard. I got a great deal on it so I'm moving from a 1 acre fenced yard to a 5x5 yard. The breeders were garbage. They were living off of their dogs that they sell. Just seeing if there is a amazing match in Oregon for her. If not then she stays.

I would suggest that she will be happy living in the house with you provided she gets to go for walks morning and night. Get in the habit and by the time she is 2, she will have settled into a more relaxed lifestyle.

If you don't think you can manage her, then contact Seattle Purebred Dog Rescue.

With all do respect I have to disagree.

I don't know about anybody else but when I am searching for a house to buy it better accommodate my "great female. She is the sweetest dog I've ever had", or I'm not buying it.

It's been a while but I'm betting that this house that was purchased WITHOUT a backyard was probably in escrow on Dec 2 when you were looking at buying a puppy.

http://www.dobermantalk.com/1200331-post.html

Would that dog not need a need a backyard?

Please someone rescue that "sweetest dog I've ever had"!

Have you considered having a dogwalker visit her while you're away at work everyday to get her out for some exercise and socialization?

Another option would be a dog daycare where you can drop her off in the morning and pick her up in the evening. She gets loads of exercise, socialization and attention.

Both of these options cost a pretty penny, but it's worth it if you really want to keep her, IMO.

There are many people on this forum who live in apartments and houses with little or no yard. If the dog gets exercise, it is not a pre-requisite to have a big yard. Dobermans do NOT self-exercise anyway so having a lot of space can sometimes simply lead to fence running and aggression.

I know DR lives close to me and he has a postage stamp sized backyard but he and Q manage quite nicely. It is all about responsible pet ownership and if you don't have the desire to be a good dog owner, then don't get dogs of any size. Dobermans are only troublesome and full of mischief when they are young and lack activity. Once they reach adulthood (at least all of mine for the past 40 years have been like this) they become couch potatoes at the earliest opportunity.

I personally have 10 acres but they only have access to about 1 acre when I am not around and then only 4 when we go out in with sheep pastures. But I do have around 10 dog beds, 1 dogs only couch, I leather couch for people (read dogs), 2 recliner chairs for people (read dogs), 3 king sized beds for people (read dogs) and other places to snuggle together and snooze.

Do the dog a favor and turn it into a rescue. Obviously you've made up your mind the dog should go.

BTW I live in an apartment with an adult male dobe. It's doable if you want it to be. I don't think that's the case here.

You said it much better than I did, or tried. Sorry about that.

I'm just tired of seeing people giving up their family pets because where they moved don't allow pets, or Dobermans, or the yard is too small....me personally I just wouldn't move there. This person has other options as you have said but they instead obviously want out.

I hope they do find a good home because the dog deserves it and I hope the OP realizes that not only is his/her new yard too small, but his/her heart for caring for a dog is also.

Well, I didn't want to just assume that, so I thought I could at least offer a couple of ideas that hadn't been shared already. Although I, unfortunately, agree with the rest of you about the OP's intentions.

I will never understand why some people get pets. Pets are not disposable just because you don't want to take care of them anymore.

Most of us here that have lost our dogs would give anything to have a little more time with them and others just throw them away, its very sad.

seriously. i'd have given anything for my baby boy to see Christmas, but he decided it was time to go before then. i still cry about it every day. and this shmuck just wants to throw their dog away because they're bored with it (all while planning on possibly picking up another puppy).

i hate people like this. absolutely abhor them.

Many are impulse buys. Some are pity buys. Some are just a matter of sheer stupidity. In the end the dog suffers when reality hits. When it comes down to expense, time, novelty wearing off, etc. the dog gets dumped. Many of these idiots just go out and buy another puppy and the process repeats.

But this pisses me off. Coco was supposed to be my "hubby's" dog. I did not even want a dog. But when we got her and he worked all kinds of shifts and was never around to look after her I had to take over. We went to puppy class so I could learn what to do.

My life totally changed with Coco. His didn't. It was like I suddenly had another child to care for. I loved her from the beginning and am a responsible person so I did what I had to do and she became "my" dog. I often think someone else may have just given her away and who knows what her life would have been like. Geez we didn't have a fence for the first 2.5 years of Coco's life so we went on lots of walks and play dates. She still doesn't spend time by herself in the yard so we still do LOTS of things together whether I want to or not lol because it is my responsibility to her.

To the OP...If you cannot commit to proper care please give your dog to a reputable rescue and don't get another one please.

This perfectly illustrates the point you made on the rescue thread last night about the in flux of animals in shelters around the holidays. It's just so sad for them that it's really maddening for the rest of us!

So many rude people in here, stick to the op topic or whine somewhere else in your own post. To the op, good luck finding your dog a new home.

Not rude.....we're realistic. And from your post you obviously have a problem telling the difference. FYI this is in keeping with the OP topic. It's about getting a dog and wanting to dump it. In another thread the OP was inquiring about buying from a pet store and posted that she had found another dog (puppy) that she was wanting. So until a mod comes into this thread and finds it off topic, mind your manners or find yourself dog housed.

This really upsets me... I had to rehome my first doberman when i got divorced because I just couldn't find anywhere in the shat-hole town I lived in that would accept him. I searched relentlessly for two months while he stayed randomly at friends homes who offered to watch him because the base hotel wouldn't let me have him. To this day, I still cry about him because I feel like a failure.

I now have Toorc and once again, RELENTLESSLY searched oahu for a home that would allow him before I even moved here and even before he was born. I'm in a two bedroom townhome with zero yard. But he gets his walks and his outdoor time with me. I REFUSE to ever let the same happen to him. He's part of my family and I won't fail him.

As well it should. When you bring a dog into your life you are essentially saying "please share my life and I will share yours". You make a commitment to that dog. What you don't do is pay some byb for the dog and then when it is inconvenient to keep the dog try to move it along to someone else.

Remember, renting and buying are two total different things. This sack bought a house knowing it didn't have a backyard requiring the dog to be at least walked.

Ok, I'm walking away from this thread now. I often fear that in situations similar to these that giving anymore negative attention may result in something innocent being blamed for it.

OP if I lived in your area I would help you find a rescue. Since I don't if you need someone to research and help line up a proper rescue I would be more than happy to do that, just PM me.

There is a rescue in the area and I gave her that name in my first post. I got Daria from there a decade ago and I live in OR (and in case the thought crosses anyone's mind, NO I don't want another dog thank you - I have 4).
