Sorry I disappeared so long. Don't want you all to worry about another member like what happened with S&M's Mother. Well, the story goes on; however, it is not all doom and gloom. We have heat!!!! It was and is such a pleasure to hear the steam in the pipes. But there have been a few setbacks, but progress is slowly going forward nevertheless. Well, next was supposed to be the Mold people (mole people, lol) and they came and started working; however, I find out that they were not the ones to do the mold. Ellyn neglected to tell me that we had to have a lot of asbestos removal from the basement. So we had about 4 days of banging and the basement had been sealed off from the inside to prevent us from looking at what was happening. I don't know why, but the house smelled even worse (maybe my imagination) and since the banging was so constant and getting on Ellyn's and my nerves, we moved up to the second floor--no computer upstairs. And because of all their banging, they broke another pipe in the basement and we had no water for two days. Now that the asbestos has been all removed (I think), the mole men will be here on Monday. Ellyn had told me that the home insurance company would not help at all because of the clause that they don't cover wind damage. Now she said that they reconsidered and may give us something--how much we don't know yet. They are sending another adjuster by. Gosh, it sure is taking them long enough. I know we waited well over a month when the first one came by. And then, the worst happened. I had a pretty close friend from work die. About a year ago payroll was sent from my office to join with other CUNY payrolls to an office in Manhattan. I kind of lost touch for awhile with her. She was past retirment age and still working. Just before she had transferred, she had lost her husband and a few months later her son was tragically killed in a car accident during the last snow storm. The way I found out was just as bad. My office manager just passed me by and said, "Oh, by the way, Mary Serena just passed away." I'm sitting at the front desk and immediately burst into tears. She had no idea I was close to her. It was such a shock. I have been trying to piece together what had happened to her and found out that she had been sick for a while and went back to work saying she felt better, but then went back home sick again. Then she became hospitalized and was in a coma for about a week and then passed away. The family has not been forthcoming with any more information.
So that is the update on the way things fare around here. Hero's taking everything in stride and is thriving. I must admit, he makes things for me much easier just by being here. I love him so. Just after I last posted, another package for Hero came--and according to Hero, it was the jackpot a box full of toys and treats. We receive the gift cards and are holding back the target ones probably for appliances. We are saving the cash to determine which is more pressing (i.e., roofing, plumbing, whatever). I also adore the velour exercise suit, it is so warm. Hero wants to thank you for the red sweater. It is his first sweater and he looks so handsome and warm in it. He can't thank you enough. I love the two handmade sweaters. I think they are made out of the same type of yarn that they use in fisherman's sweaters. I always freeze, even when we have heat and it makes me so comfortable. Ellyn has tried hers yet because she is always so hot. I will probably claim it. Ellyn really likes the coffee maker.
And thank you for the check. You are way too generous. I feel so guilty about accepting this stuff, but then again so much was needed and used and I feel grateful about it. I guess I am so used to making it through any problem on my own and it just feels so different to accept help.
And then we had a surprise--Porsha's package, the one we thought had been lost forever came. Now, we have two fleece coats. That is better because when one gets wet, we have the other and vice versa. Both are beautiful coats. And everybody cross your fingers for Porscha to get well. I just called her a day ago and she has the flu. I was hoping she would come over this weekend as she has never been here. We met at the shows and have become fast friends. Well, it's late and I should get at least another hours sleep before I have to get up and go to work. Once again, thank you all!!!!
