| Some horse pictures Okay, so I'm no Julie_W but I have been getting some pictures lately from the barn and various horse shows that I really like. Since I know there are a bunch of horse people here, I thought I'd share. untitled by PatchworkRobots, on Flickr untitled by PatchworkRobots, on Flickr untitled by PatchworkRobots, on Flickr untitled by PatchworkRobots, on Flickr wHollyHillK9Benefit-Mc-66 by PatchworkRobots, on Flickr wHollyHillK9Benefit-A-43 by PatchworkRobots, on Flickr

| Ooh, the shot of the grey and rider is lovely--such an easy, free seat, and they look so light and forward and happy.
Who has the Halflinger? I'd love to see more shots of that one, if you have any.
And yeah, your pics are nothing to sneeze at, Julie_W bar-setting-stuff-or-not

| Awe thanks guys!
I"m not comparing myself to her as much as I"m sure it sounds. Julie_W takes some AMAZING photos and I aspire to be so good but she's also a professional and I only started taking pictures less than two years ago so a real comparison would be unfair. SOMEDAY, however...
The Halflinger is Fox and he's a real looker! He and a few other horses belong to a mother of three young kids. I don't get many pictures of him because she's 1) rarely at the barn when I am and 2) rarely working with him, to my knowledge. He's got a pretty face but he's green and not worked enough so he's not all to fun to deal with. Here's some more of him. untitled by PatchworkRobots, on Flickr untitled by PatchworkRobots, on Flickr untitled by PatchworkRobots, on Flickr untitled by PatchworkRobots, on Flickr untitled by PatchworkRobots, on Flickr

| While a Halflinger wouldn't be my personal choice of a mount, I'm sort of fascinated by them and particularly when they are used "non-traditionally."
Who is his rider?
While he's clearly green...he's certainly not being done any favors, gosh. Poor fella.
I have heard it takes a patient and persistent rider to bring out the best in them. I do like the lighter ones, not quite so drafty-looking. Some of them look like mini-tanks, but he's cute.

| His rider is the one that's pictured on him. Sometimes the little girls get on him but that doesn't ever do any good. I think it's patience that's really lacking in his situation.
Sometimes I"m tempted to get on him and see what I can do but then I get lazy ._.

| Good job!
While I see where people are coming from when they say don't compare yourself to others, I actually disagree. No matter how long you have been shooting and how good you are there is ALWAYS things to be learned from others work. I am constantly comparing my work to others and striving to improve.
I am flattered that you would use my work as comparison. Although to be perfectly honest, I have only been doing this a few years myself, so by all means study and compare others work as well. The more you view, study, and compare as many photographers work as you can find the better you will become.

| Love the pics, the girl on the grey, love their free flowing look. The last pic of the bay, he looks lovely despite the stiff rider........ but gah, I'm feeling pains for the bay with the draw reins, the second pic of him, the hard hands just look painful for the poor fella..... then again I ride with a very soft hand b/c that's what the horses I ride do best with.
Not meaning to critique the riders, its just a hard habit to break.
You're pictures are lovely.

He doesn't look happy. And I don't know if it was a hot day or what, but that horse is sweating a lot compared to the horses in the other pictures. Are draw reins really necessary? I don't ride dressage or show jump, so I'm not familiar with them.
I also adore the grey. He and his rider look like they're just having a ton of fun and it really shows in the photo. |

| Thank you guys for the compliments!
The horses are very fun to photograph.
The sweaty horse with the draw reins does need a clip and its in the works, if I remember right. He's always been one to sweat excessively, however. As for the draw reins, it was something they were trying, I think. I arrived in the middle of that ride and never quite figured out why they were on him. I haven't seen them on him againn. I don't particularly think he needs them and the rider had never used them before, which definitely didn't help. He does need a stronger hand in general, though. He's strong and takes full advantage of a soft hand - I've tried a bit.
As for the other bay, the girl was supposed to be asking him to gallop on but would not stop holding him back. Shes an interesting rider and has days where she rides wonderduly but then has days where she's stiff as a board.
