| Check out of Foster Brody So check this out, I have never been this impressed with a dog, possibly ever. He reminds me of Dakota when she was young, the kind of dog you show something 2 or 3 times and it just clicks. He was dumped by his owner with no explanation as to why, and it's quite mind-boggling, as I have not seen a single behavior problem with him, he learns INCREDIBLY fast, and he has an awesome temperament. I wish you could track down people and punch them in the face, unfortunately that kind of thing is frowned upon.
When he came he "kinda" would sit, but mostly he would walk away unless you lured him with a tasty snack. In less than 2 weeks, he will sit, and down from any position with verbal and hand signals, will stay, backup, stop, give eye contact, drop, etc. This guy is ridiculous, and seriously has the potential to be a superstar. When we have the fosters out and about I always keep a camera handy for this very reason. Here's a few short clips of Brody the superstar. Took me months to do the same things with Dakota, who is definitely a lot more drivey, but nonetheless, I think this is pretty dang impressive.

| I hear you Kevin, that there are things that simply defy logical explanation. And that justice is not always permitted.
Brody's a doll face! I know he'll find a great home, especially with your superstar training!

| Wow, he's supercute and cool.
And how about that Dakota girl? Resisting kitty temptation, off lead, what a good girl.

I just try to be fair, consistent, loving, but most of all I try to live up to the standards that the dogs deserve to have. So far, they have been quite patient with me lol
I try to find what motivates a dog the most, and use that to my advantage in training, and keep the training as fun as possible. I don't believe training is a one size fits all, and I think one of the most important things is that your dog trusts you, and as a result listens to commands because they WANT to, as opposed to just doing what they're told. One of my favorite things to see is that look in their eyes like "Look, I did it, aren't you super proud of me!" |
