After so many of my dog park buddies had to deal with personal injuries and injured dogs, the group of us just stopped going. We still met up for playdates occasionally back when I lived with Mocha.
There was that one time though when some idiot brought a VERY pregnant Yorkie who was going to give birth "any day now" into the big dog park (nevermind that there's a little dog park RIGHT NEXT TO IT). He stood over her yelling at every big dog that came close and picking fights with their owners because he didn't want to lose her litter. Some people.

| Im glad no serious bites, i stopped going to the dog park after some bozo let his two unlatered huskies in the park and then left for about 15min with his dogs still in the park. There was about 10 other dogs in that park and the unaltered macho man had to pick the fight with Kratos, needless to say instead of the people in the park asking where the guy was and why wasnt he supervising his dogs the gave me the evil eye for having the mean looking doberman. |

| I'm not sure if you could have gotten his personal information or not, but would it be worth reporting to the police? I ask because the guy down the road has a terrier that bites & he's been much better about minding his dog & keeping him close since someone reported a dog bite.
(I know bylaws are different in different places, not sure if having had a report on his dog, the obnoxious owner might be more careful in future.)

| Just caught up with this story. Wow, I'm glad you weren't hurt more seriously!
That guy's attitude was infuriating! But examples of bad ownership abound at dog parks, even good ones, like the one near me (same one as CocoLoco). The prevalence of obesity, the total ignorance of dog "language" and cues, and of course, a lack of control and appropriate intervention. We, too, are selective about where and who we play with. Fortunately, Roxy has good recall now and we can remove and redirect.
My favorite part of your story was when Whip came charging in to check on you and the "effer" So Doberman, right there!
Glad you're ok |

| That really sucks! I hope your hand heals quickly. I stopped taking Leala to the dog parks too. So many rude dogs and owners. We had a few run-ins with dumb dogs who had no owners in sight. I think that dog parks should have doggie cops! And stupid owners should get tickets, and fines.
And WAY to often I have seen people 'drop off' their dogs at the park and come back a half hour later. It's not daycare!

Kate | I did make sure to get his information, as well as contact info from a couple witnesses. Crossed my t's and dotted my i's.
I got his information from someone else, I might add, as he declined to give it.
I spent some time debating reporting this, as the dog would have been yet one more statistic of a bully on bite report and in quarantine. And it wasn't her fault and she isn't "vicious," just needs management and proper training.
Since my injuries are minor, and the skin was not even broken on Obe, I opted to let it go, for now.
A part of me wonders if I'm doing the dog a service or a disservice. I would have liked to think a report and having to deal with quarantine and the authorities would make effer wise up and do better with the blue girl, but...yeah, most likely not.
She would have had to do her quarantine at the AC/shelter George and Whisper came from, and it's rampant with disease and mismanagement, bully breeds are auto-euth'd, not sure if he would have surrendered her or not--if so, she'd a been killed.

Poor pup. Why are people like this? |

| you were bit. With witnesses. Where was animal control in all this? You should put blubber Bob through the ringers - his dog in quarantine, the works.
at least here, a bite is automatic quarantine, either at home, or shelter, for rabies watch. Vaccinated or not. The dog is not taken from the owner, only held and watched for the prescribed time. And the animal control officer asks appropriate questions regarding the situation around the bite. At least it would be a wake up call for Fat Bob.
But then I remember you are in West Virginia - don't they encourage dog bites there actually?

| In the UK if a dog bites, no matter for what reason that dog is PTS, no if's no buts. Unforutanately many times the owner then goes on to get another dog and the cycle repeats itself again and again, well it does until the courts ban him/her from owning a dog.
In Spain the law used to be, if you enter someones premises uninvited and you got bit, 'tough titties my old son', just be thankful you werent shot as well.
Unfortunately the area I live in has a new police force who do not know their own countries law (the statutes say a homeowner has the right to defend his own property by reasonable means and dogs come under this umbrella) and have said directly they will shoot any dog who bites, despite any and all extenuating circumstances put forward. It is the same police force who insist Dobes etc are muzzled when out and about, yet do not insist on hunting dogs who run in packs when out and about are kept under control and some of these are big brutes, used to bring Jabali down, (Wild Boar. I cannot tell you the number of times we have been attacked by hunting dogs, if I did this post would be miles long).
I dread to think what might happen in the future due to that stupid blubber butts attitude. Some poor dog and/or his/her human is likely to get hurt very seriously just because he cannot be arsed to get off his fat keyster and train his dog properly.
Oh, by the way, now whilst I do not particularly like Cesar Milans techniques, I do not believe he advocates letting dogs run amok, biting others with no correction from its owner. If I am in error please guys, put me straight.

| I don't take Saph to dog parks because she is *that dog* that ruins it for everyone lol. One thing I will say is that if there is a situation where she is loose and a dog comes up and she goes running after it, I don't follow her. Me chasing after her always made it worse, instead i yell come really loudly and if she doesnt come the first time, she does on the second holler- thankfully. I find things escalate when i go after her. Maybe that is just Saph. I know it makes me look like I am doing nothing, but in reality it is the lesser of two evils in my case.
